did you use a credit card for wedding related purchases?

Hello! I read in an article to use credit card to pay for some purchases on your wedding day to earn points etc. Did you do that, and what did you pay for?

I'm a fan of charging big purchases and paying them off right away for the points. Also, you can dispute the charges if need be.

@melissa - start with a store card (Target, JC Penney, etc.). They're what people often use to build credit.

We haven't so far but are going to get the chase sapphire and use the points toward travel for our honeymoon! You get $500 in points for charging $4000 in the first three months and for a wedding I don't think that will be hard! Haha.

Our venue was at a hotel where I get double points on my Chase credit card. We made damn sure we put as much of it on that card as possible!

ETA: Paying it off monthly of course.

Yes, just our wedding bands. But FH had a card for the store & we set the money aside to pay for them.. But this way it helps our Credit.

I'm not paying for my wedding any "differently" than I do purchases for every day life. The only difference is that I have a separate account for my wedding fund, so I just use that money to pay my credit card down, and my credit card does offer mileage/points and such.

I'm using my credit cards whenever i'm able to for protection in case something goes funny with the vendor. So far I've had my cards flagged for fraud and replace 3ce from sending all these authorization forms to several vendors. Never use your debit card on those forms!

I'm not doing ti because I don't trust myself to set a budget with that. I'm putting all of the wedding money into one account and only using that debit card for wedding purchases. I will cancel that account once we get married. Smiley smile

I've found a few of my vendors don't take cards. It's not a bad idea to use a card to get points and then pay it off right away. I might start doing that.

Thanks! Dress and initial deposits I'll probably use my card and shoes then. I'm debating on getting a separate one solely for wedding purposes. Any suggestions? Discover? Capital one? Chase? Thanks! I truly appreciate all the great comments!

We put everything we could on credit cards, just like for the rest of our expenses, because we get cash back. But we always pay them off in full each month so there is no interest.

I did that because I wanted to earn the aeroplan points from my credit card. It gave me enough points to get a round trip ticket to go to my friend's wedding. (Awesome!)

I made sure to pay off all wedding expenses right away though. I had the cash saved up to pay off the credit card right away.

When choosing a card, look at the point program and now it accrues points the best.

We picked a Starwood Preferred Card from Am/Ex, because we use their hotels when traveling. It also allows us to apply our "miles" to any (most) airlines.

Our second card is a Lufthansa card because we will fly Luft when we go to EU for our honeymoon. We will be able to apply the miles onto the luft card and upgrade to business/first class for our flight.

What are cards don't do is accrue multi points for gas, groceries, etc. so you have to pick and choose which one is best for you.

We are using ours as much as possible! We have the money usually before we put it on though... that way we can pay it off right away. We have almost 800 dollars to use for our honeymoon from credit card points! Smiley smile

My mom is using her credit card to earn the points and then takes the money from my wedding account to pay it off. She will then in turn use those points to take the whole family on a vacation.

We've been paying cash or with our debit cards for everything. The only thing we put on a credit card is our honeymoon, but only because we got one with 12 months 0% interest. If we didn't have that card, we would've just put it on our debit card.
