Did you regret wearing a ballgown?

Pszab, on October 30, 2016 at 11:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 19

Torn between A line and ballgown, I feel that a ballgown may be slightly uncomfortable

Why did you regret yours? Or why did you love it? (Aside from looking nice of course!)

Mine was a borderline ball gown, but my dress fabric wasn't heavy at all. It also had sleeves which helped make it comfortable. I loved mine!

Consider your space and the amount of guests you'll have. Important to think about potentially knocking over tables with your dress!

Not sure if mine qualifies as a ball gown as it's more of a drop waist. I feel like I had the best of both worlds because it was fitted at the top and full at the bottom. Maybe look for a similar type style so you can have both. I don't regret it at all and it was very comfortable. My seamstress took up some of the crinoline around my feet underneath so I wouldn't step on it and it helped a ton.

I wore a ballgown and loved every second of it. It wasn't uncomfortable - actually quite the opposite. Even with it bustled I was able to move and not feel constrained. I wasn't worried about knocking over tables with my dress or anything like that. Nothing crazy happened because of my dress. Needless to say, I loved my ballgown!

@Kate: That's not a dropped waist, thats definitely a trumpet style dress. Dropped waist dresses just have the cutoff between the bodice and skirt a little lower (as in just a couple of inches lower) than the typical point, so it's lower on the hips.

OP: We haven't had our wedding yet, but I can't see regretting wearing my ballgown the whole time.

I have a ball gown, and it has a HUGE full skirt. My petticoat is the shizzzzz too! Like Cinderella status ball gown. It's actually comfy. It's heavy for sure but I can move freely and sit down well.

I had the same struggle. When I was trying on dresses I figured out that I didn't like the ballgowns with a super stiff petticoat like allure has. I preferred a ballgown with a softer, less rigid skirt so that's what I ended up buying. I was walking all over the store to make sure it was comfortable to move in!

I was torn between the dress I got and ball gown I tried on randomly and fell in love with too, I went with fit and flare though because I knew a ballgown would be too big to fit down the aisle

Zero regrets about buying a ballgown, BUT I should have spent more time in it before the wedding day Smiley smile I didn't realize how hot I'd be, and I definitely felt like I was bumping into things and stepping on my dress. I did some impromptu dress surgery in the bathroom with my bridesmaids to cut out a few layers of tulle!

In the 3rd picture you can see that I definitely had some problems sitting down with the dress everywhere Smiley smile

I bought a ball gown and ended up having the train removed. I'm so glad I did- it was easier to move around in (the train adds a TON of weight) and our ceremony was post-rain so the ground was wet. Can't imagine how I would've walked through that with a train! Plus I was worried about tripping and it would've been ten times worse with the train.

I think you need to try them on to decide, and don't forget to sit in them! My a-line with a long train is just as bulky as a ballgown.

I don't know if mine is considered a ball gown, but the skirt part is pretty fluffy. I love my dress so I'm going with it. I'm wondering how I'll have it bustled though... you definitely want to be able to move in it

Not all ball gowns are heavy or take up a ton of space. I ordered a ball gown, but it's light and doesn't take up a ton of space. It's not constricting and I anticipate it being comfortable.

Thanks, MNA. I had no idea what it was called. Drop waist was just what the store told me.

Hey, what kind of petticoat did you use? I feel like my dress goes under my feet sometimes and is hard to walk in even with a petticoat
