Did you marry without hiring a photographer?

VIVIAN, on January 5, 2017 at 3:28 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 62

My fiance suggested not hiring a photographer and since our wedding is 4 months away and we haven't booked 1, I was starting to lean toward just having guests take pictures. My stepdaughter told me her aunt had her wedding that way and all the pictures look good because they are more candid. Anyone have experience with not hiring a photographer?

Mmmm but don't you want specific pro pics that you hang/display. Sure you can take pics on a cell phone but it won't look nearly as good. For something as memorable as a wedding I think you should have a pro take pics that come out beautifully and by a pro who knows what theyre doing.

Don't do this. I hired a photographer and we had issues with him so I'm in the process of trying to collect guest photos. It sounds like it could work in theory but it won't.

Just remember that if you regret the decision you can never really redo it. I mean you could put wedding attire back on but it wouldn't be the same.

Oh hell no. Girl get yourself a photographer. Have you ever looked at wedding photographer's websites? iPhone photos will NOT look the same.

No. Please hire a photographer. You will cherish those photos for the rest of your life and you don't need them being cell phone quality. It is not your guests' job to document your wedding. They're there to have fun and celebrate your marriage.

Hire a photographer. What if no one gets good pictures? Your guests are not professionals. They won't know how to work with the the different lighting and locations of the ceremony and reception. I know I want pictures that I love and will display in my home. I would not be comfortable relying on my guests to get those types of photos.

I picked a photo that has minimal editing, but you will NOT get guests photos that will come out like this. And yes, I'm plugging my photographer. Lol

You need to hire a photographer. As a guest I wouldn't want to work during a wedding.

It just depends on your priorities- I doubt you'll see much support for the idea on here because having professional pictures is very important to most people. If you're sure you're not big into pictures and are sure you'll be ok with only having candids, of course you can skip hiring one. Some risks though:

    - The very real possibility that you won't be happy with guests' pictures

    - You can't necessarily rely on guests to take a ton of pictures; they're your guests so you can't exactly say "btw, you guys are responsible for photography!" You wouldn't want to do anything to make them feel obligated, or like they are working your wedding.

-Photographers usually get candid pictures also, and they'll be higher quality than pics taken on a cell phone; photos by guests aren't going to be as good, and you won't be able to get as many shots of you as a couple since things you'd be leaving things up to chance by not having an actual photographer.

Long story short, if you care about having decent pictures of the wedding, you're going to want to hire a photographer Smiley winking

And please consider opening your post to vendors- they won't come in and spam your post, and tend to give really good advice!

This isn't a good idea. A photographer is a must in my opinion. You can't do this over if your guests photos suck. Professional photos look way better than ones your friends take.

A regret that I hear over and over again from friends and family from their weddings is not hiring a better photographer, or not hiring a videographer. I think you'll be really sad if you don't have professional documentation of the day!

I would suggest hiring a photographer. You can go with a smaller package that way you save money. I did a lot of hunting on google, FB, and places like craigslist. If you hunt around good enough you will be able to find someone who's affordable. Don't rely on guest to take pics. They won't care how well it was focused.

Many of my coworker have gotten married in the last year. The one thing they wished they had done was have a photographer. You can even call the local art schools and see if students are doing this. I'm really thinking we need the videographer now too. I really love some of the videos on YouTube. Would be awesome to have with so many older family members

Nope. I eloped at the courthouse, but a photographer was literally the most important vendor for our wedding.

I had barely any pictures from guests since everyone else was having their own fun time. I'm so glad I had the professional ones.

I think you still have time to book one, but if not, maybe a photography student will have openings on your wedding date? Find someone with more experience than Snapchat.

If I had only relied on the photos I got from my guests I would have gotten 1 blurry picture of the ceremony and like 500 selfies from my cousins. Please hire someone. Food, flowers, decor, etc last one day. Those will be your memories that you can keep forever.
