Destination Wedding/Travel Insurance Dilemma

Heather, on June 18, 2012 at 3:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 3

My Fiance and I have planned a beach wedding on St. Thomas on August 14th. Us and 28 others are flying to Orlando and hopping on the Carnival Dream for a week, where we will dock in St. Thomas (fingers crossed) and will have our wedding. We booked through independent vendors, not through the cruise ship.

Our biggest fear is the off change that weather would prevent us from docking in St. Thomas as planned. We are trying to find insurance that would cover the deposits for the wedding, and additional costs to reschedule the wedding at another location in another port or in Orlando if needed. Wedding insurance seems to cover all of this, but not due to transportation issues. Travel insurance seems to cover transportation and weather, but not the wedding costs. Can someone suggest what we should do/look for in this case? We are lost and have contacted people regarding this with no luck.

Help!

I would research insurance on both ends and see if you can blanket them together. I would then have a back up plan just in case. That way your guests didn't come to see nothing.

IMHO you are taking a big risk by not booking through the cruise line but I know many brides have done it before. I am a big fan of using independent vendors when we cruise but not sure I would take the chance for my wedding. I really hope it works out for you. There are a lot of other cruisers her that may be able to help but there are also a few cruise critic boards that have bride threads that may be able to help you better.

I'd call a travel agent. That's what they do, they should be able to point you in the right direction.
