Destination Wedding

Is anyone doing a destination wedding? Where are you doing it? How long are you waiting to do it in order to accommodate your guest? Are you excited? Are you nervous? Are you inviting a lot of people?

Trust me, anyone looking into it doing it, less cheaper than a traditional wedding!

I am getting married in Jamaica at the Royalton Blue Waters in May 2021!

Ours was "destination" in Colorado only because more than half our guests were from out of state. We sent out save the dates with our main hotel block information 10 months out. We invited 225 and had 125 attend.

We had a destination wedding in Cancun last April. We sent out save the dates a year in advance- they said Cancun and the date. We sent invites out 9 months in advance and they had all the info. We invited 20 people and 15 came. It was the best decision we could have made.

I am planning to do a "destination" wedding of sorts! My fiancé and I moved to Florida for work, so all our family lives in Illinois/Arizona/Japan/England, and friends across the US since after college most of them moved. Therefore there's no real difference between us having the wedding in Florida or a different state, and I really want to be in the mountains! We are looking at North Georgia and Tennessee, and will send out info to guests a year in advance so they can start planning ahead.

Wow this makes me feel so much better! I originally wanted a destination wedding but the thought went out the door when we realized my fiancé’s grandmother couldn’t come because she can’t travel. Then I got excited about the traditional route because all of my closest friend and family can come, but at 250 people and proposals at $24k, I soon realized that I did not want to spend that type of money. Especially when we are looking to buy a house and clear debt. $25k for one day is just too much in my opinion. So now we are sticking with the destination wedding, we have a list of 80 people so I’m sure that now will go down quick! And it’s way less money and I get to have my wedding and honeymoon all in one destination

Yeah, we're doing a DW in Hawaii. We are only inviting immediate family. It was a bit awkward when we went to a funeral this last weekend and saw FH's extended family members, but we made the decision to not have a lot of people so that we could pay for everyone's travel and accommodations.

We are having one in Sedona,AZ. None of the family lives in the same state and this felt like a logical solution. Make everyone travel a little bit! We chose to stay stateside due to health problems in our older guests. Flying would not be an option for them, and them not being there wasn't an option for us. We also cannot take a honeymoon after the wedding so it seemed silly to attempt a big, international dw. We are super excited for the big day. So far we have 16 guests and it is a super small wedding with attention to the finer details. I like the sound of yours also! I love warm locations!

We’re planning on doing a destination wedding as it provides neutral grounds and neither side can complain that all their guests have to travel.

My FH and I chose a destination wedding in Mexico at an all inclusive resort that's a 3 hour flight for his family (east coast) and about a 4 hour one for mine (west coast). Although we got some flack from his family, we couldn't be more excited!! I'm nervous about everything coming together and making it special, but I feel like our resort will be amazing! Unico 20 87, October 2020!

We're taking our immediate family on a cruise with us (paying for their
travel and accommodations) and will be getting married on Grand Turk.
It's actually where we got engaged as well. Smiley heart There will just be 15 of us and we couldn't be happier!

We're getting married in Jamaica at Sandals SouthCoast in October. We gave our guests the information as soon as we decided where, almost 2.5 years. The length of our engagement was our choice but not because of where we were having it but because we had 2 kids graduating from high back to back!

We are having a destination wedding this May! We chose Florida (we live in Kansas City and have family all over the US and Europe). We had a 14 month engagement but told our families/friends immediately that it was going to be in Florida and the date. No one has had an issue with the time frame so far! We are very excited and not nervous at all since FH's parent's live where we decided to get married. We invited 80 people total!

We are having a destination in Sedona as well, ours being "destination" as everyone is coming from mostly the midwest. So beautiful there!

So I read online awhile back that the new DW's are actually not international travels and in fact couples are choosing a stateside destination. I found it interesting because I've been told that stateside travel cannot be considered a destination wedding. I find that kind of funny considering I know many people who have never even left their home state.

Right? When I told people we are doing a destination wedding they were like oh Mexico? Jamaica? Cabo? They were quite surprised when we said no good ol' USA!

We decided on a DW in Oahu. My sister lives there, we’re in NY. We invited 18 originally. Only family. Have had people say no, then yes and back to no. Par for the course when you choose a DW. We told everyone in October 2019 and our wedding is June 26, 2020. Right now we have 11 people. I am beyond excited and so nervous because I’ve never planned a wedding. Especially with costs popping up we weren’t expecting. Time is just flying by!!
