Destination Wedding Invitations & rsvp

Jei, on April 15, 2020 at 10:16 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
Hello All,

I am having a destination wedding on June 5, 2021 at an all inclusive resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica. We have blocked 40 rooms for family and friends. Any rooms not booked and paid in full by December 1, 2020 must me dropped. While our guess will still be able to book as part of our party up until March 2021, rooms will be based on the resort's availability. We sent out save the dates 9 months before the December drop date for the rooms, and our guess seem to really appreciate and welcome the advance notice. Looking around online it seems like formal invitations and RSVP's for a destination wedding are sent 2-3 months before the wedding. With the drop date for the rooms being in December 2020, should I send the invitation and RSVP's 2-3 months before then to give guess a final opportunity to book one of the block rooms or wait until 2-3 months before the actual wedding? Any insight is welcomed and appreciated!

Maybe you can send a small reminder on a business card, they’re pretty cheap on vistaprint. Or To save on postage you can send them out early as you mentioned before.

We were also planning an international destination wedding before having to cancel due to COVID-19. I set my RSVP date as 2 weeks prior to my room block drop date. That gave me a little bit of a buffer to follow up with people who hadn’t RSVPed. I’d send invites at least 3 months prior to the RSVP date, especially since it’s an international wedding. Given that your RSVP date would be at the beginning of the holiday season, you may want to send the invites a little earlier. We also listed our wedding website on our Save The Date sent out 11 months prior to the wedding date. We updated the site frequently with more info and we posted reminders about the RSVP and room block dates on there and on FB to our guests.

We're doing a DW Sandals South Coast and we sent out emails to give information 2.5 years, and then official STD's were given 2 years out. We decided not to do formal invitations because out of the 35 invited only 10 are going including us. We gave more than enough time for everyone to plan to attend.

Yes, 2.5 years is plenty of time. We didn't send out anything that early but when we got engaged a year ago, which is two years before the wedding, we were very vocal about informing everyone it would be a destination wedding. We waited a little closer before sending out save the dates. Like you, I feel like the more advance noticed the better

I say send a reminder. We are only giving actual invitations to people who actually book and make there deposit. Everyone on our guest list will receive a save the date and have access to our website. This is most due to the higher cost of our customized invitations. But as far as time line as sending them we not really following one.

I am thinking about sending a reminder but having trouble with the wording. Do you mind sharing yours?

I found this reminder that a bride sent to her family and friends. It might give you a few ideas. Hope it helps.
