Destination Wedding hair and makeup

Jessica, on July 8, 2011 at 10:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I'm so worried about hair and makeup for my wedding day! We're having a destination wedding, so I really can't have a trial run before the big day. Should I trust the resort to do something I'll like, or should I do my own hair and make up?

Is there any way you could do a trial a day or 2 before? We live in RI but getting married in Ohio on a Sunday, I am doing the trial 2 days before.

I don't know about you, but I'm winging it. But you can ask the MUA to send you some photos of her work, if she can, so you can see her work and tell her what you do and don't like about it.

I might be able to od a trial a day or two before, but I'm worried that I'll hate it. I'm sure I'm just freaking out. Maybe take makeup with me just in case? Or do a trial run with a MUA at home and bring pics with me?

Maui bride just got back from her DW. She had her trial 2 days before, and then used a 2nd dress to do a trash the dress session with her hubby. the pictures looked amazing. Maybe if it is in the budget you can do something like that? And she also did 3 trials before she went, and even changed her mind the morning of to do something different. I'm sure you will be fine, everything will fall into place. Do trials and bring pictures.

    ~happy planning~

DEFINITELY bring your own makeup. I think most experienced MUAs are pretty good at a variety of styles (chic, glam, natural, etc.) and they *usually* have great makeup, but you may prefer that the MUA work with your makeup. I'd be more worried about that than her abilities, strange as it sounds.

As a Makeup Artist I definitely recommend you possibly doing a trial with a Makeup Artist that you trust back home. And have her create the look that you'd like to have for your Wedding day. Then take pics of everything. That way you can have a clear image for the Makeup Artist at the resort to recreate. And preferably bring along all your own makeup to replicate the look. Everyone tends to have a different version of what they would consider a natural look or glamorous look. This will helps make things much more easier for your Makeup Artist at the resort and less stressful for you. Specially when your not bringing an MUA. I have done this for many brides who have had destination weddings and have found this method to work best. Hope this helpsSmiley smile and Congrats xo

Why not consider bringing your makeup artist with you? I do many destination weddings all over the country. This way, you are guaranteed to know EXACTLY what look you will get, with a person you know and trust and makeup you (and your skin) are familiar and experienced with. Depending on where you are getting married, you could walk into the place with products that aren't safe or regulated. It may not be as costly as you think and it never hurts to ask.

    Best wishes!!!!

I didn't have a trial either for my DW. My wedding planner gave me several options for a MUA/hair stylist and I picked from looking at the photos. They were awesome - I decided to spend more on the the ones who came highly recommended. I think doing a trial at home and taking pictures is a great idea, something I was going to do but never got around to it.

I would suggest having a makeup lesson and purchase the products used. Also, get a hair trial with someone.... take lots of pictures.... and present resort staff with your style to redo.
