David's Bridal Must Hate Fat Girls

It seems like every one of their "plus sized" dresses are just so boring and ugly. Why can't I have tulle, jewels, and lace like those skinnys? haha

You can find Maggie Sottero dresses up to size 32. Her dresses range from $700 and up. I, too, didn't see anything at all at DB and my 2 experiences there left me in tears and feeling very ugly. It wasn't until I went into a boutique where they insisted I should have a fun experience, that I started to feel better. Maggie offers lots of sparkles and fun, too!!

I had an okay experience at DB (one of the few on here). There plus size options were horrible! They don't even look like the same quality and I only saw a few I agreed to try on. I finally took my BM's advice and started trying on the largest sizes they had in the dresses I really liked. It was a gamble but I found one I loved but was literally 4 sizes to small. I checked out a few other places but still came back to that one. I took a gamble and ordered it in my size. I love it! They can be a little pushy and alterations...lets not even go there!

@Stephanie - which website did you use? I have heard mixed reviews about online dress sites. I want to go to the local Alfred Angelo shop in my area, but I am worried about pricing. I am amazed at the people who have bought their dresses online, loved them and paid as much as a bridesmaid dress for them!!

Here is my dress not at all plain from David Bridal, but sssshhh I bought it off craigslist for less then 1/2 the price NEVER WORE Smiley smile My complaints about Davids Bridal are that when I was wedding dress shopping they had no gowns without trains! Also if it is not the bride shopping only bridal party they do not give you as much attention!

I didn't have the best DB experience either. I was a good girl, made an appointment and had a few from the catalog earmarked that I wanted to try on. They measured me (14 or 16) and took them 15 minutes to find the dresses. Some needy skinny B%$#& and her neurotic mother came in the store... no appointment! and I was immediately forgotten. I will not go back! Very poor service. Miss Skinny-and-i-have-no-appt should have been the one kept waiting and ignored. It's not like I came in in my sweat pants. I had my dressy clothes, heels and my hair up in a pseudo style similar to what i wanted for the wedding. Apparently my mistake was bringing my curves Smiley winking

I had a very good experience at DB. They found me the dress I was looking for without much effort. The two ladies who were helping me gave me a ton of attention, even after others started coming into the store.

My experience with David's Bridal was actually really good. I went there and fell in love with the second dress I tried on. Then I went to another bridal store and found a decent one but it was more than twice the amount of the dress at David's. Plus, at David's, I could bring the dress home with me that day.

So I ended up getting mine at David's Bridal even though I was hesitant about it at first. But it's beautiful and I couldn't stop thinking about that dress so that's how I knew it was the one. Plus, my attendant there was really helpful and very patient with me.

My experience with DB was also horrid. I don't care for the quality of their product.

Re buying their plus sizes online, if you order from the outlet, they are not returnable. However, the other dresses they sell online are returnable. The other downside of DB is that they kill you with alteration fees.

I am an Alfred Angelo bride. When I called to make my appointment, I made sure they had samples in my size for the styles I wanted. I had 2 hours of a consultant's time and did not feel like a fat old lady. Despite even buying a bridesmaid dress for my wedding dress, I still very much felt like a beautiful bride.

I used romanticgowns.com. I got a dress that was similar to one I saw at DB for half the price, and I actually liked the one I bought more than the DB one even though they were very simiar.

So im gonna be the downer on this board, but please refrain from calling thin girls skinnies. Its not flattering and is demeaning. while, yes I am thin and many other girls are, i hate being called a skinny as much as you would hate being called a fattie (and Im NOT calling you or anyone else that, just giving a comparable term).

Sorry, not trying to be a pain, but its just something Im sensitive to.

If you are worried about the price, go to other stores like AA and see what you like to try it on then see if you can find it on OnceWed.com. I know a few girls has success on that website. I will say too my experience at DB was bad. The girl asked me my price range and I told her. She looked at me and said..."Well I guess you can do whatever you like." and then walked away. Hey thanks for the customer service. At one point I was sitting on the pedstal in my dress looking on sad. My BMs told me to forget it, got me dress and took me to lunch :-)

I never had a good experience at DB. No one was rude, but the sales people at our local store just weren't very helpful. They gave us a catalog and told us to pick out the dresses we wanted to see. Hello? If I could figure out what dresses would look good on me from pictures on models, I could just buy online. What I wanted was someone who could recommend dresses to try on, based on what would look good on me. Then we went back to them for veils. They only had a few to try on. With the rest, we were told that we could order it. However, again I felt like the whole point of shopping in the store was so we could see what things looked like before buying them.

I know that the DB stores are locally owned, so the experience can be very different at different stores. In my case, I ended up buying a DB dress--but from a consignment store at which the owner had a great eye for things that would look good on us. And we took our dresses to a local independent seamstress, not DB, for alterations. So I really had no problem with the dress itself, just with the service at DB.

Have you considered group usa? I had one close to my house in miami, same prices as DB, more fabulousness and they have up to a size 24 or 26 depending on the dress. Your perfect dress is out there.
