Cupcake Count

Susan, on March 17, 2016 at 12:01 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 41

For those of you who have done (or are doing) cupcakes...what is the average amount per person? One cake per person or more? Any brides who have already done this I'd love your advice and for those planning with me, what are you doing? Thanks ladies!! If it helps, I'm only using 2 flavors and they are normal size cupcakes, not mini.

I have been told 1.5 per person on cupcakes and donuts (we are doing donuts, but most places say the same for both).

For an expected count of 50, our baker suggested 75 cupcakes plus our small top cutting tier.

THAT SAID, I'm probably going to do fewer than that because it seems like a real lot. So I was thinking a dozen per 10 guests, because... do people really take 2? The issue for me isn't cost because donuts (and cupcakes \) are cheap relative to cake, but the issue for me is WASTE. Just the thought of taking home 100 donuts and throwing them away makes me sick.

(I could eat 4 donuts for breakfast, but after a big buffet dinner? Even I have to stop at 1)

I'm doing 2 cupcakes per person. We're having cake, Caribbean ice cream, and candy favors. So 2 cupcakes pp is more than enough.

I'm doing cupcakes as well. I'm actually planning 2-3 cupcakes per person due to only doing cupcakes and punch right after the ceremony. Not sure that helps but anyway, good luck.

Most people will take one for sure and very few if any will not take any. Depending on our final numbers we will have between 2 to a little over 1.5. Since they don't need to be heated or cooked they will be out all night long. I know my liquor butt will want to eat them later. Also if worried about waste, send home with people. People love free food, especially sweets.

I've always eaten at least 2 at every wedding I've been to that had cupcakes.

If you're worried about leftovers, as PP suggested, send some home with people.

We did like 2.3 per guest (with no shows and last minute cancelations we ended up with 2.7 per guest). Yes we had leftovers but then again we had 11 people that we originally counted for for cupcakes that didn't show - that definitely attributed to some of the extras.

I think you should be safe with 2 per person but we also had 9 different flavors, so it could have been that more people wanted to try the different flavors -- we had guests take lots of cupcakes home/back to their hotels/on the plane/road with them.

2 cupcakes per person UNLESS you are serving other desserts. That count goes up if you're offering different flavors.

Eta: I googled this awhile back and decided to go with 2 per guest.

Also, you could forego favors and do to-go cupcake boxes if you're worried about leftovers.

2-2.5 depending on guest count and flavors. I'm doing cupcakes for a wedding in September. There will be three flavors, and I suggested 2.5pp but they decided to go with 2pp for 100 people. I don't think it will be enough if there will be 3 flavors because people want to try them, but it should be okay.

We plan to do about 1.5 per because we are having tons of treats, not just cupcakes. Our family and friends all love goodies, so if we didn't have other sweets, we probably would be doing 2-3 per person. I figure guests can take home the extras.

We have approx. 100 guests. We are doing a small 6" cutting cake for the two of us. 50 regular sized vanilla cupcakes w/ raspberry filling, 50 mini chocolate cupcakes with bavarian cream, and 50 mini red velvet.

I'm doing cupcakes as favors. I had just planned in one per person. I'll ask my baker what she thinks.

We had 222 RSVP yes for our wedding so baker suggested 22 dozen(split evenly between 3 flavors) plus our 6 inch cake - this was way to much we ended up having 7 dozen left over. If I could do it all over again I would have just got enough for everyone to have 1 because nobody I know of had more that one and several people didn't have any.
