Crayon Packs a Hit??

Mrs. Captain America, on November 6, 2013 at 7:36 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 26

Has anyone thought of or used the idea where you provide kids at the wedding with a bundle of crayons and a coloring book?

I know we'll be having several kids at the reception so I'd like to have those to keep them busy (or at least attempt haha). I'd put a basket filled with them on a table in the entryway and just have like 4 crayons and a small coloring book bundled together with a ribbon or something. What do you think?

Better to have them at their seat, or with their name card, IMO.

I've seen "kids stations" where its a kids table with a bunch of colors, papers and other crafts where they can spend the whole reception. I've also heard of people hiring a babysitter to sit with them and keep them occupied so that the parents don't have to worry about them. I think my reception will just be my daughter so I'll just have to deal with her lol

but yes at least a coloring book and crayons would definitely be smart!

I wanted to set up some a kids table, but my aunts all shot down that idea saying that'll just encourage the kids parents not to watch them. Smiley sad

I'm still thinking about getting some crayons, coloring books and glowsticks.

I've never been to a wedding where they've done it though.

I just realized I'm not much of a help. Sorry!

Thanks Chloe, I'm hoping it will help at least for the wait between ceremony and reception! Smiley smile

And Vanessa haha no worries, thanks for the input! Glowsticks are also a good idea that I haven't thought of. I haven't seen any at a wedding either - but then again i've only been to a couple weddings in the last year too lol

I was thinking of doing little bags with kid stuff in them to keep them occupied. Coloring pages and crayons were part of it and maybe little words games that relate to us. Im having bubbles as favors but i was thinking of putting extras in the kids bags cause what kid doesnt love bubbles. Glowsticks are an awesome idea! Especially when our wedding is gonna kinda be at night! I had the thought last night of setting up a big projector screen and a game console but that will attract too many of the "big kids" including FH lol

We're hiring a sitter and keeping them all back at the hotel with movies, pizza and popcorn. I want the parents to enjoy themselves, but realize that not everyone can afford a sitter on top of all the other expenses. This way, the kids have fun and so do the parents.

Tabatha I love the idea of providing extra bubbles to the kids! They do love them and having their own i'm sure would be a blast haha.

Karen that's a good idea too! I know if I was a kid I'd love to stay at the hotel and snack on popcorn and pizza lol

We are giving each of the kids ( there will be about ten of them under the age of ten) a small bag with their own small box of crayons, pictures to color and bubbles in them. Glow sticks sound like a good idea as well. This way each child has his or her own things. This usually works better than sharing does with my kindergarten students.

That sounds great Donna! I'm actually going to school and only have a couple more years till I get my Bachelor's Degree to become a Kindergarten Teacher! I worked in a preschool daycare for 5 years and I understand the sharing haha...

We did a kids table. It was one round table in the corner. It had coloring pages, an I spy game, a page with a crossword, tic tac toe, etc. It kept the kids busy during cocktail hour and all the stuff they would consider "boring." The parents got to chat without kids hanging on them or begging to leave. We got rave reviews for it. Everyone loved it. None of the kids were out of hand at all. The youngest are 3 and oldest are 9. We had about 15 kids there.

We are having two kids tables, one with crafts and one with board games, and hiring a few babysitters because there will be a pool and the ocean.. I want the adults to be able to have fun and our kids will get bored im sure, so those were some of the ideas that they came up with.. We will also have a fire pit, and smores fixings..

I was at a wedding where they did a couple of kids tables and even had cheap puzzles piled in the middle of the table, a teddy bear for each seat, the teddy was holding a bag that had a bell on a ribbon for their wrists, coloring pages, crayons, and other cheap little toys. the puzzles were like 10-25 piece puzzles, the coloring pages were wedding related.

We were initially going to do a kids table with coloring books and special snacks, things like that, but we decided not to do anything special for them and it turned out great because they were all dancing with everyone all night! We had about 10 kids under the age of 10, the smallest being 2, and they were completely fine without anything special because they played with each other. Smiley winking

I had a link to a wedding colouring book, about 6 pages of colouring and activity pages. I printed it out and got a bunch of cheap crayons at the dollar store. Got my wedding coordinator to put them at the spots where the kids were sitting at. Had about 10 kids under 12 at our wedding. The kids enjoyed doing the activities especially during the speeches and the special dances. Then they hit the dance floor.

We are getting married on July 4th and I picked up some crazy red white and blue curly straws on clearance for the handful of kids we are going to have. I have also thought about doing coloring books for the kids as well.

We're gonna do a couple kids tables with games, activities and other things to keep them busy. And we plan on covering the tables with Kraft paper so they can draw and color whatever they want. Also doing special snacks and drinks for their table...goldfish, Capri suns, gummy snacks, etc. Hopefully they enjoy them!

I made kid goodie bags. Each kid gets a coloring pack (small coloring book, 4 crayons and some stickers), a swirly straw, and a glow stick necklace. These will be placed at the tables for us with the kid's name on a label on the bag.

I have a wedding colouring book that im printing and will provide crayons. We're having the kids sit with their parents, i know my step-sister in-law would have a fit if i sat her daughters at a kids table away from her. I love the idea of extra bubbles for them.

ETA: we will have glowsticks for them as well. We're also having a DIY photobooth so there are gonna be masks, hats, etc for them to play with.
