I think that'd be very nice and you can probably find a violinist for a reasonable price.

You can do a search here on WW for a violinist in your area (if you don't know of one).

Love it. My cousin has 3 children between 8 and 13 who are going to play violin at our wedding.

Do it! It's so good and a single musician isn't unbelievably expensive. I'm a violinist, so in my "totally unbiased opinion" it's a fantastic idea!

Eh, not to rain on your parade but a violin is typically a single-note instrument. If they do 30 minutes' prelude, then 2-3 songs for the party, it will get rather monotonous-sounding. I'd really suggest you look into adding either guitar or keys to help fill it out more or guitar-only if budget dictates a single musician. Of course, my fav is flute/violin/cello. Hope this helps.

I agree with Rick R. Try to have a second instrument if possible. We're going viola and keys.

We're having a harp for the ceremony, but violin was our second choice! It's going to sound lovely!

I love strings. So pretty. Do it!!!!!!!!!!!

Too bad FH is a band director and not an orchestra director. I could have steel drums. How nice do you think that would be LOL

Smiley smile thanks! They are already working with their teacher on the songs, and they are kids, so if they mess up it'll still be cute

Oh live music is so wonderful for the ceremony...harp is very pretty as well. WW search will help you a lot. You could also talk to local colleges music department...most of the students have been paying on average for 5 or more years. You can find some very talented people who may not charge as much...just options, but LOVE the idea...it really is beautiful!

Definitely look into college music majors... broke college students looking for gigs= super cheap but still really great professionals. As a music major myself... we always take anything we are offered and we have to audition to even be accepted into the music department... so definitely some really good talent!

We had a violin and cello for our ceremony and cocktail hour - i would not have wanted anything but live musicians for that - and they were ammaazziinnng. we had so many compliments on them and it really created such a beautiful atmosphere.

We are actually doing a String Quartet. For those that are unsure, that consists of 2 Violins, a Viola, and a Cello.
