Chipotle for Catering?

Kylie, on September 8, 2016 at 4:09 PM

My fiance and I both love chipotle and he really wants them to cater our wedding. I am not opposed to it because I also love chipoltle but I'm wondering what our guests will think. We're also going to have a candy and desert bar with cupcakes and cookies but I just wanted other opinions.

Why not? I do think they have a bad reputation now though but I love their food. If you're having a casual wedding then sure

If they don't like burritos, they can ask for a dang quesadilla.

Ps: if someone is going to be upset that they don't want to come to your wedding because of the food (no matter where it's from) I personally don't think that's your loss. The priority is your wedding and people should want to see that regardless of what food you serve imo

If it is all you can afford and it is super casual, then yes it is a better option than self catering. Ideally for a wedding it would be nice to have something other than fast food, but anything is a better option than self catering. Could your caterer set up a taco bar and then a pasta bar or something that way your guests have different options without having to eat fast food? If you can afford more, I say do more. But if you really want Chipotle then it is better than self catered food at least.

Please at least have a legitimate Mexican restaurant cater! that place is gross, and they spread ignorance

@A.L.C. That's why it's called a consideration (a thought), plus FH and I got engaged at an Italian restaurant so it holds a special place in our hearts

@Fall Bride I need to invite you to our wedding $300 Holy Crap I thought Putting things on the registry that were around $100 was a little steep.

But I wouldn't mind having chipotle at a wedding, but to be honest I have never been to a Fancy wedding...all have been kahkis and polo/button down for guests

We are doing a taco bar also to try to keep costs down. After doing research, found that the Mexican Restaurants in my area charged $10 per person (not including drinks) and using Qdoba or "fast food catering" was the same price. So we are going with a restaurant who can actually provide servers as well for the same cost. And better quality food IMO.

See that's the thing. Our whole wedding is being paid for out of OUR pockets, no family is helping. So we want something that won't break our budget. And for their catering you get to choose three meats and every topping is included along with you can make a burrito, a bowl, a salad, tacos etc. But now that people have pointed it out I'm going to have other options or just not go with chipotle at all. On a side note what are your picks for caterers so I can look into them and get pricing. We want a casual wedding feel.

@O&S if you were really happy for the bride and groom, their newly wedded joy should sustain you while you line dance through the hunger and misery.

No, no, and more no!!! Fast food has no place at a wedding!!!

You are HOSTING your guests. There's nothing wrong with Mexican, or Italian, or whatever kind of food you want (I went to a Portuguese wedding once and the food was A-MAZING) but it should be high quality food, full service, not fast food. You're guests should leave raving about how awesome the food and the wedding was. Chipotle does not equal awesome (for weddings).

Are they going to set up with the stations and your guests are going to choose- refried beans, black beans, guacamole, sour cream, ect? Or are you serving burritos and calling it a day? I'm trying to get behind this OP but I just can't.

"Chipotle" and "wedding" should never be in the same sentence. It's your wedding, presumably a once in a lifetime celebration, not Tuesday, which happens every week.

Cut your guest list and host them nicely.

Most of us are paying for our own weddings. I don't know why people come on here and say that as if it's something abnormal. I'm totally okay with weird wedding food if it makes sense. I love Chipotle, so I'd be fine with it if it were a super casual, small wedding. Like you've seen here, there are a lot of people who don't like Chipotle, so you have to know your crowd. I second the recommendation for Mexican restaurant catering. It's also cheap, and it'll probably be better. That being said, you should cut down on guests before you cut down on the cost of food. How many guests are you having?

IF it doesn't make his stomach upset, maybe have it for lunch while getting ready, then do something like catered BBQ or catered italian during dinner. This way he gets his fix but your guests get something nice for dinner.

Does your venue have any options of catering they could provide to you? I've been to a wedding where they had a nacho and taco bar and it was buffet style with people behind the stations who made what you wanted. It was delicious food from an authentic place in town. If you really want Mexican food- surely a restaurant could organize this for you. Or any caterer in town would likely be able to make some food with your vision in mind.

Here's the thing I preach this all the time. Look at an all inclusive. You may think individual sourcing everything is cheaper, but having a place that will be your venue, have table chairs set up and break down, and provide food may seem expensive per head, but it simplifies things, and is usually more cost effective. I thought it would be too much, but it saved us a lot in money and time.

We are having 60 guests at our wedding all close friends and family members. I've never heard anyone complain about chipotle in our family or group of friends but the more people speak of it not being wedding appropriate I think we'll just go with an actual caterer that specializes in weddings
