Checks or Cash - Do you have a preference?

Kelly, on September 23, 2019 at 7:19 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 25
I received a call today asking what my preference was - cash or check? Made me think about my preference (I didn’t think of this before) It also made me think of who checks should be made out to you: one of your names, both of your names, Mr. & Mrs. X. Does anyone have a preference?

I spoke to my FH & we both agreed that checks were our preference & Mr. & Mrs. was the other preference - I’m changing my name.

We opened bank accounts in both names to cover ✔️s in one or both names.

Cash is always nice! We were worried we wouldnt be able to cash the checks that said Mr. And Mrs. In a timely fashion but it ended up being okay

Anything can happen and sometimes at the absolute worst of times. Because I'm paranoid sometimes, I would personally prefer cash if asked. If anything, we would open a joint account and just deposit the checks without a hassle.

I think I'd prefer check. Only because of accidentally misplacing cards or heaven forbid being stolen.

Yeah, that’s my concern. I have plans to change my name right away.

See I think anything can happen & cash makes me so nervous. What if I lost it or someone stole it. But I also agree cash is really easy too.

Cash. If a check is made out to Mr. & Mrs. MarriedName, how do I cash it before I change my name? It takes time to get your marriage certificate, then your new SS card, then your new drivers license. By that time the person probably assumes the check is long since cleared and you both can end up in a mess. No, give me cash or at least a check made out to only one of us, with mine having my maiden name.

I’ve been married almost a year and still haven’t changed my name. We’ve deposited over 25 checks made out to my married name and we had no problems with them clearing!

We prefer checks and we already have a joint bank account so it shouldn’t be a huge issue for us!!

Good to know. An old co-worker of mine also said that him & his wife were able to cash checks with no problems.

See that would be worst for me then Mr. & Mrs. My last name is legally my mothers maiden name, but everyone in my family assumes it’s my fathers last name (my parents were young when they had me & for some reason put my mothers name as my last name - makes it more confusing since they got married & are still together).
To avoid confusion I removed my last name from all invitation & used my first name & middle name & used my FH first & last name on everything.

I'd prefer cash. It's more convenient than checks to me!

You can always put it in a lock box at the wedding and keep it on a table near you to keep an eye on it or you can always do venmo/paypal.

I signed my maiden and future last name! The woman at Wells Fargo told me to sign it twice and we had no problems.

Yeah we got plenty of checks to mr and mrs married name and I cashed them in my maiden name. We both had to sign and I had to sign my married and maiden name so 3 total signatures. I also brought my marriage license along just in case but it was no issue. I prefer checks because mobile deposit, cash I have to go to the bank to deposit and it makes me anxious
