Ceramic Men's Rings???

Meghan, on February 3, 2011 at 2:07 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

Has anyone seen or bought a ceramic men's ring?

FH found on we both like, but it's ceramic. They have a tungsten version, but neither of us care for it as much- snce it's silver and the other is black.

Very different- but I know nothing of ceramic jewelry.

Thoughts/comments from the peanut gallery?

Apparently it's the same ceramic they use in ball bearings--very hard and strong. It's also very heavy.

Titanium looks silver if that's what you are going for -- I got FH's wedding band from titaniumknights on etsy ($40). Never heard of ceramic before!!! Sounds interesting

The tungsten one is the same, only silver/chrome looking. FH really likes this one- I have just my concerns because I've seen a man with a ceramic ring before.

The good thing is- it's heat resistant, and with FH being a firefighter- that's important.

Oh, and the price is about 1/5 of what we budgetted for his ring... that always helps too...

I may get it for him anyway as the ring he can wear when he's on duty.

It's cheap enough I may just suck it up and buy it and call it a loss if it doesn't work long term...

They have them in blue for police officers as well. They have an additional tungsten version with a carbon fiber blue center- but not in the red! That would be it hands down if they carried those.

    I'll do some more research.

I remember seeing darker, almost black titanium/tungsten rings at Zales and kay for like $200 something. You may want to check there. Also, JVL, where all those free ring things we had months ago came from, I remember seeing black tungsten ones there for sure.

We are actually looking for something with the red strip. I found them from a manfacturer only... And they are cheap enough I may try to sell the rest on eBay, since I have to order 10.

We've got some time, so I'll keep looking.

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about ceramic rings. I worry it will look cheap for a wedding ring...

Actually ceramic is pretty light, much lighter then tungsten. It's scratch resistant like Tungsten, but isn't shatter resistant in the same way (though it isn't going to break if you just drop it). Like tungsten it can't be re-sized, so it is best to get it with some kind of warranty that allows you to trade in for a different size. It doesn't conduct electricity so it's a great choice for men who are in industries that don't allow rings made of metal.

They have the ceramic ones at Fred Meyer Jewelers here in Wa State. They are super cool! My FH wants a dark 2 tone ring I was comparing the 2 tungsten/titanium VS Ceramic. In the past I had bought him a 2 toned Sterling Silver and the dark actually wore off. The lady told me that is normal and happens with time. But the titanium/tungsten and ceramic 2 tone rings won't since the metal is color threw out .. And the ceramic 100% scratch proof material, as well lighter than tungsten carbide and heavier than titanium. And they don't lose there "luster" that was a big selling point for my FH.

I am sure we are going with the Ceramic.. Good luck.. But if you have not I would suggest going to the store.. I must of gone to at least 3 or 4 to compare and see what each person says about those two rings.. :0)

I had a question about the re sizing as well. At Fred Meyer they told me since it can not be re sized and for some reason it needed to be.. We take the ring in they re size him and for 20 bucks we get a new one!

We actually can't go to the store- it's only online.

I may order 2 sizes- one the size he is now and another for when we get old and fat together...

It's only $50, so if we completely get nothing out of it- well, we've had bigger bar tabs...

Looks like you don't really lose anything by ordering them and seeing what you think. Wedding bands and e-rings should be whatever the person wants them to be. Some girls don't like diamonds so they get an e-ring with a different stone in them. It may not look like a classic e-ring but if it's what she wants, then I think it's perfect. I wouldn't worry about the black and red not being wedding-ish! Go for it!

Meghan, I was going to ask about the heat resistance! HAHA! Gotta love those fire fighters! If you have to order ten, get one in a 14 and I'll buy it from you! Louis' hands a massive and I can't find one he LIKES and can wear without spending a fortune!

Mrs. L- the one I have order 10 of is tungsten with the carbon fiber inserts.

It looks like this, only red...

And they sell for $7 each- so having to buy 10 isn't a problem! Oh, and Mrs. L- you come get, you can have it!

We were looking at the tungsten rings at http://www.larsonjewelers.com/ and they have this ceramic with tungsten mix rings. What's nice about ceramic rings is that they're lighter and since we're looking at their black ceramic rings, they don't scratch mainly because they are black all the way through.

Donna- they have a great selection, but they are WAY overpriced!

I've seen way too many other retailers selling identical rings for under $100.

The one I'm looking at is $50, and the carbon fiber one with the tungsten is $34!

    Keep shopping!
