If you have your heart set on this dress just ask your FDIL. When you ask her also include the option of dying it a light blue. This way if she is uncomfortable telling her FMIL she can't wear a dress you give her a nicer option she might be more comfortable telling you.

It doesn't look anything like a wedding gown. I think you're fine.

If you could dye it a light blue, that would be beautiful! The blue will look great with the other colours. And ask FDIL, she might be completely fine with the dress as it is

I think its way too much white, its a gorgeous dress, but not for a wedding, especially your son's.
