Can I wear this dress to my sons wedding

Tuttsy, on October 6, 2015 at 8:36 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 37

I fell in love with & bought this dress to wear to my sons wedding, but my sister tells me any white at all is taboo. It is a tropical beach wedding so light colours seem most appropriate. Please help.

I personally don't see a problem with it, but if your FDIL isn't on here, nobody is really going to know what she would think. If I were you, I'd ask her. She's really the one who would be wearing white (or an off white bridal color) and doesn't want attention taken from her.

If nothing else, I'm sure you can find the same dress in a different print...

Obviously, the print really stands out but it still is a floor length white dress. I would ask the bride. A safe bet is if you have to ask, don't wear it.

Ditto Jeanne. It's a gorgeous dress, but I'd definitely ask your FDIL. That being said, if it were me, I'd probably tell my FMIL that it's fine, even if I didn't want her to wear it. So maybe just don't wear it.

I would personally say no. It's a (mostly) all white floor length dress. Like Jeanne said if you have to ask then play it safe and don't wear it.

I would definitely not wear it, it's way too much white, better safe than sorry on this topic. At the very minimum ask the bride, but she may feel awkward saying no to her future mother in law. I would just save it for another time.

Personally I would be fine with it, but the only opinion that really matters is your FDIL's. I would send her a picture of it and tell her it's one of the dresses you were thinking of, but you wanted to get her opinion before buying anything.

I would ask FDIL. I personally wouldn't really have a problem with it because of the beautiful print, but other brides may be offended. Like Jeanne said though, if you have to ask, you probably shouldn't wear it.

I didn't let my MIL wear a dress that had that much white. Sorry, it's a no for me.

I do not think it's appropriate. Come on, it is a floor length white dress.

This dress is beautiful, but if you have to ask it's probably not appropriate.

The only brief is long dress. I live in a small town where for the past three months I have had a choice of black, black, and then this. I am think inking of sending it away to have the background colour dyed pale blue. The bride is in a large ivory dress, the bridesmaids are coral, & I actually thought the blue would fit in nicely. I stand corrected.

Dying it light blue would be perfect!! It really is a beautiful dress.

It's a gorgeous dress but I'd check with FDIL. Personally I wouldn't wear the dress as a guest or family member, my rule is that less than 50% of the dress can be white!

I think it's fine, but I would ask FDIL too.

The blue is not the issue...dying it sounds like a great solution.
