Calming my wedding day nerves...

Jenn, on June 10, 2013 at 10:16 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 30

So, I am terrified to be center of attention. My wedding is in 5 days and I woke up this morning and it hit me like a brick wall in the face. I have to walk down the aisle in front of 130 people AND I have to speak! What did you do/plan on doing to calm your wedding day nerves? I'm so afraid I'm going to start bawling and look like an idiot and not be able to stop! My stomach gets the butterflies just thinking about it...

Have a nice breakfast and maybe a cocktail beforehand. My cousin had a glass of wine.

What time is your ceremony? For me, a mimosa or a glass or two of champagne will be mandatory. No hard liquor and I'll definitely eat a good breakfast, but just a little push to take the edge off.

Not until 6pm! I'll DEFINITELY have a mimosa!

Jenn, just focus on FH's face as you walk down the aisle and as your say your vows.

I've officiated over 1,300 ceremonies and have seen tears, sobbing, nervous giggles, stone faces, etc. And that's just the grooms, LOL!

I feel the exact same way and am hoping a nice glass of wine and the excitement of the day will get me through. I am 99% there will be tears at some point though Smiley smile

You'll be fine. I don't like to be the center of attention either, but at my first wedding I just kept my focus on my fiance and forgot about the rest. I kind of throw up a little thinking about that though LOL

Jenn, that sounds like a plan! We're having a late ceremony too, and I'm worried about my nerves as well. I'm SO glad to have all day to pamper and relax, but at the same time, I'm a little envious of the early-ceremony brides who get to just get it over with!

I have a feeling I'll be fine up until I start walking down the aisle. Fh should be ok since we'll have a first look but we've already been warned by the BEST MAN he'll probably cry! And if I see that I may start crying! Anyone got any suggestions to keep this guy calm?

    Oye, me too Paris!

Good idea Nancy! I'm sure I'll be one huge ball of emotion that day. Ugh.

Amanda- I'm the same way! We didn't have a choice but to have our ceremony late, but, I'll deal!

A first look is probably a GREAT idea Kristine. If only I could convince FH to do it...

When H and I were on our way to the courthouse, I got hit with an unexpected case of nerves (it was just us and parents, so I didn't think I would be nervous!). Then 'our song' came on the radio! It immediately relaxed me and made me excited instead of nervous. Maybe you can play 'your song' while you're getting ready, before you go down the isle, or make a getting ready playlist of songs that have a special meaning to you two! I'm not really a drinker, so I think I'll skip the mimosas and go with the music instead when we have our 'big wedding'....

Yay so close. maybe try having breakfast with your FH before all the crazy begins and just remember these are just your family and friends and everyone there loves you. Focus on FH and have a beautiful day.

Don't focus on the fact that it's 130 people looking at you, just think these are all people who care about you and FH and are there for you. Friends, family, etc. I think it's better than having to speak in front of 130 strangers.

But then again, I'm sure my face will turn a bright red as soon as everyone turns around to look at me when I walk down the aisle. I hate that about myself but can't really control it.

    You'll be fine though!

I'm worried about it too. I have bad anxiety, so for our engagement party, I took a Xanax beforehand. I had two glasses of wine and I was hammered. Oops! It was bad. So I have to find another way to deal with it on our wedding day, so I can drink! Lol!

Booze. Smiley smile Just a little though.

Focus on your fiance and try not think about all of the other people... just zoom in on him!

And have someone around who will be your designated "calm me down" person if you start getting freaked out. I know my sister will be my go-to person on the day because she'll just make me laugh.

I'm pretty sure I'll just be laughing. Just think of FH, and how excited you are to celebrate with him...and hopefully that will calm your nerves enough to get you through the tough part!
