BYO Alcohol Venues

FutureMrsB (Aussie Bride!), on September 22, 2011 at 11:21 PM Posted in Planning 1 12

We haven't chosen a venue, but one of the ones on our short list allows you to BYO alcohol which will be a massive $$$ saver!

Anyway, just as a rough estimate, so I can compare prices between venues, how much would you typically pay per person on BYO alcohol?

We have a guest list of 110 (how did that go up so quickly???) and some DRINK HEAPS (i.e. our friends, and my dad's side) and then some drink very little (mainly mum's side, which is massive), and then obviously all those in between. I would prefer to buy too much than too little.

They are charging $7pp to serve drinks, but it is $POA if you want them to mix cocktails.

    This could be helpful. Evite has a simpler calculator but I couldn't get it to open on my computer for some reason.

    We are also BYO, we have about 80 ppl and we are doing 120 bottles of wine, not sure about beer yet, we have't bought that just yet. But most likely a Keg of light beer (will be kept behind the bar so no one can see), and then bottles of other types. And we did one of each liquor.

    Also, if you go to TotaWine you can return anything they can resell, so unopened and label in tact

    @Sami that calculator is awesome.

    Based on that we are probably looking at spending $**** on drinks, compared to the $**** the venues were quoting us for them providing it! Wow being able to compare it that way really puts it in perspective!

    Our wedding will have a pretty good split of heavy drinkers, casual drinkers and folks that prefer their soda. I felt like a venue that charged me for an open bar for the non-drinkers was just a waste of $$$ and I didn't find a lot of consumption based options in my area so BYO was the way to go for us. We are thinking that our costs will be around $1000 - 1,500 including bartender for about 100 people.

    A venue that was BYOB was mandatory for us. We did some looking at venues that were not and they were charging anywhere from $8/pp - $15/pp with a minimum of 4 drinks per guest. It didnt matter is they dont drink or were even UNDER AGE we had to count them in the total which I thought was insaine! So now for 125 we are spending around $900 as opposed to $4-$8 thousand. Go BYOB all the way - just make sure you check state regulations, etc. I live in the Bible Belt and we have crazy restrictions

    We had a BYOB venue and found a liquor store that, if you get over $500 worth of alcohol, they deliver it to your venue for free, ALSO, the next day, you can bring back any unopened alcohol and get your money back! It was soooo nice knowing that we could buy enough to make sure we didn't run out, but that we wouldnt be stuck with lots of alcohol at the end.

    I think for 150 people, we bought $1200 worth-but we did just beer and wine. I have no idea though how much we took back the next day (if any)
