We are having a buffet because we think its better to give our guests a larger choice of what to eat.

We are having stations. It give the guest more options like a buffet. Neither is better than the other I think it depends on your caterer & budget

Thank you ... I'm also planning to have a buffet =) I believe that a wedding is expensive, so at least my guests are gonna help themselves to serve what they want.

We did a buffet... it was a better price, and fit our personal style better (we are pretty laid-back people!)

We're having a buffet with breakfast foods (it's a morning wedding with a brunch reception). We figured it would be cheaper, feed more people, and would appease the picky eaters. Smiley smile

We decided to go with a sit down dinner with 3 choices. The buffet was actually more money than a sit down at our country club. I was worried the portions would be small, but we did a taste test and loved it all.

Which one is best depends on what you are looking for. I think buffet style dinners take a lot longer to get through everything because of each table waiting, but they also get to have more to eat. I personally think sit down dinners are a bit more formal. That doesn't mean buffets are cheesy or anything though =) It all depends on the type of food you have.

On behalf of all picky eaters, those of you who chose a buffet for that reason, I thank you. I am such one of those picky eaters and sooo apreciate when a wedding is either a buffet or at least has one relatively "normal" option Smiley smile

It depends on what is important to you. I found that buffets don't work when you have 100 or more people because of the time it takes for tables to be called, people to stand in line and finally eat. It's a horrible waiting process. Yes you get a variety of food which is nice but the waiting can be gruling. We had plated dinner which went by nice a smooth because all guests were seated and there were multiple hosts serving the tables so people weren't waiting a long time to get their food. Yes you lose out with variety but for us one plate a good food was good enough. Our guest could choose either fish or chicken. The guests appreciated not waiting for ever for a buffett line.

I agree with Maria, we are also doing plated dinner 'cause we have over 150 guests, it'll take way too long for them to wait in line, I've been to weddings with buffet before, it works with small crownds but not when you have 100+ guests, it's a nightmare and generally I do not like buffet at weddings, so it's also a personal choice.

I think it really depends on your number of guests and the catering place and your own personal preference. I am having a small wedding, with 40 guests. The reception dinner will be buffet. There will be a wider selection of foods with an option to have seconds or even thirds. Logistically it might make more sense to have a plated dinner for a larger wedding, unless you have enough waitstaff available to man the buffet line. Realistically, you can wait just as long for plated dinners as buffets, though, so I wouldn't get too caught up on that. Also, you should try to be aware of any allergies that people might have when you are planning your menu options. Exotic foods, fish/seafood, and items prepared with nuts are generally huge no-nos for people with allergies. Know how items will be prepared and make sure you know what ingredients are going into the foods in order to be courteous to your guests so that no one needs an unexpected trip to the hospital.

Buffet. We have picky eaters, and there won't be meat so it'll all be vegetarian anyway. But I like having options, and with Indian food it tends to be cheaper buffet style.

Sit down. I hate the idea of making my guests get their own food. Also, I'm having a formal wedding and buffet does not equal formal.

I'm guessing you're asking between a Buffet and a PLATED dinner? Hopefully your guests can all sit Smiley smile

We're doing a buffet and then they will sit Smiley smile More variety of choices, and it was much more budget friendly. Plus our wedding is very informal, so it works.

@ Cavan my thoughts exactly! i dont like the idea of girls in their nice dresses and high heels waiting in a buffet line up

it was really important to have a plated dinner! It had priority when doing my budget
