Buck and Doe!!!!!!!

Christie, on May 7, 2012 at 5:13 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 19

We had our buck and doe this weekend and it was such a success!!!! everyone had tons of fun and we made a lot of money! I was so surprised at the amount we made! Although one bridesmaid and 2 groomsmen did nothing and showed up 2 hrs late , they were sitting on the balcony across the road drinking and partying while the buck and doe was going on. I was furious!!! good thing i have a good fiance to calm me down. the best man really earned his name and his fiance did awesome too! they sat at the door alllll night and looked after all the money. We are so grateful and feel soooooo loved.

We had about 250 come and made 6000 .... by the time we paid the bar tab we came out with a little under 4000! Smiley smile

You dont "invite" people. Its for everyone and anyone who wants to support the bride and groom. Pretty much everyone in the town comes. Your parents friends, people you work with, friends of friends. people who just want to drink and have a good night. You usually put it in the paper for a few weeks before then people oh i didnt know so and so is getting married and then they come to support the bride and groom., Alot of young people come just to get drunk..

Its not just for people going to the wedding its anyone and everyone who knows you. if your not from an area where they have these then you wont understand. Some people say why would someone go and give money to someone they dont know but truth is, everyone knows us somehow lmao living in a small town like we do

Its hard to explain if your not familiar with it.

Please tell us what kind of games you had.

What was the big money makers?

I don't live in Canada or in an area where this is the norm, but I love to help these posts when they come up.

Did you sit in a kiddie pool and raffle off food to get dumped on you?

And congrats on the good turnout!!!!

I believe this is more common in Eastern Canada. I live in Western Canada and no one I know does this. I actually learned about this on Wedding Wire.

They do this also in NW PA too. so I've heard of it..I wasn't aware that people not invited to the wedding get asked to come, but that does make sense..I was invited via FB to one but knew I prob wouldn't be invited to the wedding so I was a bit taken aback, but like I said I wasn't aware. That's cool though that you made such a profit! I've known of like 5 in my city., and my city isn't that small. It's really no different than other types of fundraisers, so a lot of people on the forums are quick to kinda snark about it, it's just that they haven't heard of it.

I have the names and explanations of the games on this discussion...

    www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/stag-and-doe-ideas/cbc2259c483caf24.html

Toonie or Loonie Toss: A. There is a special prize of your choice placed on the floor inside a bucket. The choice of prize should be of decent value or need for other guests as well. There are 3 or 4 rounds. Tape mark 7 feet away from prize. Everyone tosses as many loonies as they'd like until they get their toss in the bucket. Everyone who gets it in the bucket gets to go to the next round. The toss line is moved back to 10 feet. The procedure goes as the individuals who get the loonie in the bucket move to the next round. The toss line moves back 3 feet each time until you have one winner. You should end up with a decent amount in your bucket at the end of it all. Important: make sure you plan this game a little later in the evening.

Thats totally not what our toonie toss was like but i guess that could work too. Where we are from you put a 60oz of alcohol on the floor have a line however far behind the bottle and people have to toss their toonie at the bottle whoever gets the closest wins the bottle of alchie.

You have 2 0r 3 people from the bridal party up there collecting the toonies that are too far from the bottle and you leave the closest toonie to the bottle until someone else gets closer. When people run outta toonies the game is done

we actually had 2 toonie tosses

    Hey Christie

What made the most money and what wasn't such a big hit?

We sold tickets for a texas mickey for 10 for 10 and that made the most. everything made us lot of money. there was nothing that wasnt a hit. The toonie toss and the texas mickey and jello shots were huge. The other thing was 50 50 and silent auction.

    LMAO@ Jen P's answer.

Christie....Thanks for the education. I am glad you had a good time. I guess it could be compared to a Beef and Beer fundraiser we have for someone with health issues and large bills, but only it is wedding related.
