Bridesmaid dresses too short for a church wedding in March?

Lindsay, on September 17, 2012 at 5:33 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

Originally, my fiance and I were considering having our ceremony and reception at a local country club because our church is a 40 minute drive and thought it would be easier for our guests (and us). Now, I have fallen in love with a church right down the street from our reception location. It is not a grand cathedral or anything - fairly small, new, has stained glass and seats approx. 120 people. As far as I know, there are not any dress code requirements. We have already ordered and received the bridesmaids dresses (was a great deal) and I'm wondering if they would be too short for a church wedding? Here is a link to the dress on Davids Bridal's website, the dress fits as shown for 2 of my taller bridesmaids and for the other 2 it touches the top/mid of their knees. We will add shawls.

I would appreciate your opinions!

Personally I dont think it is too short. Hopefully your officiant shares my view too, because i hear some officiants can be really difficult sometimes in such cases.

I dont even think the shawls are necessary too.

Welcome to WW, Lindsay! From the look of the picture, the dress length should be fine, but I think it would be better to see the dresses on the girls to gauge how long/short they actually are. And to be safe, find out if the church does in fact have a dress code or anything. But from the looks of it, you should be fine.

And I hope you'll update your avatar to something unique so we can remember you and help you more in the future! The default avatars offered can get lost in the crowd or ignored. I think they will be fine. They don't look to short at all. And I hear God loves us no matter what we wear. Smiley smile

Ask the pastor/priest/etc of the church.

Look fine to me; they may want to plan on covering the shoulders though.

From the look of the pictures, I think the dresses will be fine. Especailly since the neckline is more conservative, so it's not as though they will be showing cleavage plus leg. Maybe askt he girls to keep heel height relatively modest (2-3")...if they're wearing 5" heels, the dresses will look shorter than they are.

We are getting similar dressed from Davids Bridal and they are about the same length. We are also getting married in a church. I think the dresses will be fine.

Will they be wearing pantyhoses? I'm told at least to the knees if you're wearing short, but I don't know. Those look fine to me.

Thanks everyone! I will definitely double check with the church, and yes I think pantyhose will be a must since the wedding is in March.

Well we are about in the same position Savannah, the bridesmaids are the only thing I've figured out - don't even have my dress yet! and haven't officially reserved the ceremony or reception site. When I signed up on here I was stressed to see how many tasks I should have already completed! The Davids Bridal outlet was what helped me to go ahead and make a decision. Liked the style and the price was so good we couldn't pass it up. Luckily they all fit great! I'm sure you will start to figure it all out soon.
