Bridesmaid dress NIGHTMARE! what would you do?

din, on February 27, 2013 at 2:08 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

The bride chose bright orange for our bridesmaids dresses, like halloween orange!

they have to be all solid orange from david's bridal, which doesn't have many options in "tangerine" because no one wants to wear that color.

I have a cool skin tone (soft summer specifically), I look good in baby blue & purple. Orange is the one color cool skin tones are supposed to stay away from.

How can I make my face still look nice and not washed out without making the bride unhappy?

I already am uncomfortable in the bridesmaids dresses because she wants them sleeveless and I dont like to bare my arms. The color plus that is just making me stress and not want to go, but its my sister-in-law. I want to look not bad, but orange will make me look bad.

Please help, thank you....

You might want to ask her if she has any specifications for jewelry and shoes. Once you find that out, pick some accessories to wear that you LOVE LOVE LOVE. That way even if you don't feel perfectly perfect in the dress, you can draw people's (and your) attention to your fabulous accessories Smiley smile Also with the how to make your face not look washed out, i'm not exactly sure how to pair makeup with orange, but an idea is to practice putting on some natural looking makeup, and seeing what looks best and compliments the orange, and your face Smiley smile

I'm sorry the dress isn't your perfect color, but in the end don't worry! I'm sure you will look great Smiley smile

If you don't like your bare arms, you could always ask her if you could wear a wrap. Charming Charlie has some great ones that you could "match" to the tangerine color. My MOH has one because she is the same way.

I am with Amy and suggest getting a spray tan or using some bronzer to give you that sun-kissed looked! Try not to stress I am sure you can make it work and look great! I would also ask about a wrap, I'm sure the bride wants you to feel comfortable wearing the dress! Since the dress isn't something you really have control over, accessorize and make that reflect you!

    I hope this helps!

I agree with all of the above. Look into spray tan, and natural makeup you can build on.

You can do a subtle smokey eye with hints of gold too. Hopefully, the bride will understand, everyone is wearing the dress she has selected and she will let her BM's build on that.

Orange is such a hard color for *most* people to wear. Why did she do that??

Anyway, tan and accessorize. GOOD LUCK.

I don't tan ever. If it were me, I'd simply suck it up. Orange isn't a great color for very many people, I think! Make up will definitely help if you can do it right (I'm not sure I can, myself).

I'd just remember that this day isn't about you and how good/bad you may look, it is about your sister-in-law and your brother and you being able to support their union.

The first wedding I was in, the bride picked a bright apple green, in satin. I hate satin. But I wore it, and actually got so many compliments on it (each maid was able to pick her dress in those paramaters). I'm glad that you are not fighting the bride and her vision, and just play with it. I happen to love orange, but I went to a university where that was the main color, so I got used to it pretty darn quickly!

Is orange one of her colors, or is she one of those brides who wants to make her bridesmaids look terrible? I hope its one of her colors! i agree, the spray tan may help. Pair it with natural makeup and silver accessories.

You need a spray tan. Mystic spray tan has a subtle golden undertone. Versa Spa has more of a deep bronze/brown undertone. I dont know which of those undertnes would help improve your complexion in the dress, but hopefully that helps you decide. There are other spray tan systems but I just know those two because they are the most popular. There is also airbrush tanning where a person sprays it on you, you could always test it out ahead of time to see how it looks with the undertone. I think that is the best bet.

Suck it up. Pretend you are acting in a movie/play and have to wear what the director wants.

Then tell her the colour looks HORRIBLE on you but you will wear it cause she loves you but can you change dresses after dinner. Really you only need to wear that for the ceremony and pics. 2 of my bm's changed dresses after dinner I didn't care, that's how they were comfortable. If she minds you changing dresses buy a pretty blue cardigan to go with it.

There's so many ways you can adust the color to look good on you, first off is the colors for your makeup. Get a bronser, followed by your hair and accessories. I remember in my makeup trail, my makeup artist added too much brown bronser and I looked wAAAAY too dark. If you're not cool with tanning. Jane Iredale's brosner powder is one of the safest brands and the powders are micro sized, you can mix it with lotion and make your arms and body darker.

You can still hold wear blue earrings, bouquets. Or just have red lips. Don't simply feel you are not good enough wearing a certain color! =)

Try this out on yourself and see if it can good on you. But don't directly get rushed into saying the color doesn't look good on you.

Try spicing everything up with accessories. I am extremely pale so orange would look bad on me, too. Try wearing some silver jewelry and maybe a headband or flower or something in your hair to add some color to the ensemble.

Oh my Gosh, I feel so much better and more excited! Thank you all SO MUCH for your thoughtful, smart and creative ideas. I really appreciate the comments to just suck it up too! Its easier if I remember its not supposed to be about me.

I think I'm now for sure gonna practice with the spray tan (never done that), totally going to try to find a bolero in orange or nude & pair it with some red lipstick for my tone & accessories that I love. What knowledge I get when people share!

Also, I NEVER would have thought to ask her if I can change dresses after the ceremony, SMART! Gonna do it : )

Thanks and happiness to all you Smiley smile))))
