Brides with glasses! advice needed

LauraM, on November 20, 2016 at 7:53 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 37

I asked my photographer when I booked her if I should wear contacts for my wedding day, she was pretty adamant that I get some because she hates the glare glasses leave in photos and she would have to do lots of editing. I agreed to get some contacts a couple months before I got married so I could get used to wearing them. Well last week, I posed in some photos for this photography group I'm in and I took off my glasses for the pictures.

I absolutely hated every single picture of me! I feel like I didn't look like myself. I haven't worn contacts since I was 14. I mentioned to my photographer that I wanted to wear my glasses and she kind of freaked out a little bit. Basically told me I was going to be limited on the pictures I got back because of glares from the glasses.

My aunt is a photographer and she took our engagement photos, so I asked her. She told me there were a few poses she didn't edit because it looked like my eyes were closed because of my glasses. (cont in comments)

So I’m kind of stressing out right now. Did any brides here regret wearing their glasses? Did your photographer tell you that you’d be limited on the pictures you got back? Did you notice any glares in your pictures? Help!

I don't have a good response to your wearing glasses question. However, whenever I take off my glasses just for a picture, I look horrible. If I'm wearing contacts I look fine. I think the reason is that if I've been wearing my glasses, and then take them off, I naturally squint and my eyes bother me, so they look closed or messed up. If my contacts are in, I can see perfectly fine and therefore my pictures look fine.

Just a thought, but do whatever you are comfortable with!

I didn't wear my glasses for the ceremony, but I did for all our portraits! I look like me in my glasses. I'm so thankful I wore them.

I'm wearing contacts.. if I cry, my lashes are long, so mascara makes lovely lines on my lenses.. I don't care to carry a cloth round to constantly clean them.. I hate that you can barely see my eyes in pictures. I was pissed when I did my fitting for my dress.y mom took a picture of me and because there was a window near me, my tint on my glasses decided to turn.. so I look like I have sunglasses on.. my venue is inside buy a ton of Windows. The last thing I want is so glasses In all my pictures.. I know professionals can fix pictures, but it's true, there's only so much you can do and fix. So I decided I'm not going to risk it. I notice how my eyes barely show up in pictures I take any other time with fh, so the last thing I want to ruin are my wedding photos.. but that's just me..

@penguin I never really thought about that, I may have to get contacts and then see how I like my pics. I was just so taken back by how much I didn't like the photos

I did engagement photos with glasses on and with them off. I much prefer the ones with glasses. And she didn't do any editing. Photographers take pictures of people wearing glasses all the time and interestingly enough, the world doesn't end. I'm used to my face with glasses. I may wear contacts on my wedding day or i may not. But i like you should, will go with whatever I am comfortable with. Do YOU boo. :-)

If your photographer is a professional she should know how to pose you so there is not glare on your glasses. The non posed photos are a different story since she wouldn't be able to control that. If you are okay with glare in some non posed photos(ceremony included) then wear them. Look up how to pose to avoid glasses glare if you're afraid she won't be able to help you.

I did my engagement pictures without my glasses and I liked them. I think I won't wear my glasses for my wedding day. I may go without contacts because I hate putting them in but Idk. Do whatever makes you comfortable!

Maybe a better option would be to get a pair of glasses with anti-reflective or crizal lenses. Then you can wear your glasses, feel comfortable and not have a glare int eh pictures?

The only thing my photographer has told me moving forward is to not have the transitional glasses, which both my FH and I have. If we had those, he would make us take them off. I do plan on attempting contacts b/c I typically take my glasses off for pictures. But FH is adamant on wearing his glasses which is perfectly okay with me.

Honestly, I would listen to the photographer, she is a professional. I would hate to spend so much money on photo/video and it not come out good. I wear glasses as well and I found that in many pictures there is a glare. I attached a picture I took with my dad on his birthday. This picture was taken without flash, dim lighting in restaurant, and no natural sunlight. My point is there is still a reflection on my glasses. I will definitely not be wearing them at the wedding.

I totally get you... I love wearing my glasses!! Maybe just practice poses with your contacts on till you feel comfortable. Like @KatieS said, I would hate to have a glare in any of my photo's.

I'm wearing my glasses. I have tried contacts in the past but have always had issues with them. I also don't want to just take my glasses off for pics bc I'll end up squinting. I did just get a new pair w/o transitions lens bc I didn't want the sunglasses effect in outdoor pics.

There's one bride in particular that I remember who wore glasses on her day and her pictures looked perfectly fine. And if I remember correctly, some of her pics were taken by the water. A good photographer shouldn't have to worry about this.

I go back & forth between my glasses & contacts. I prefer my contacts. I hate the glare my glasses have in pics or if there's not a glare it looks like my lenses have this weird tint. I'm going with my contacts.

I do recommend getting them a couple of months before to give yourself time to get used to them.

I prefer myself without glasses, but my astigmatism is hard to treat with contacts, since it's so minor and only in one eye.

So I will happily deal with occasionally fuzzy sight in one eye the day of and wear my contacts!

Do you wear your glasses 100% of the time? I wear mine all day when I'm working but wear contacts if we go out or anything else. I wasn't comfortable wearing my glasses in photos (even though I love them) because I think everyone else is used to seeing me with contacts. I wouldn't want to risk all of my wedding photos having a glare though because I wore glasses. Your photographer is a professional for a reason so I would listen to her!

@markie Yes, I wear my glasses 100% of the time (not when I'm sleeping or showering obviously lol) and I don't even own contacts. I was planning on getting some for the wedding until I saw pics of myself without them. I just didn't look like myself considering I've worn glasses at all times for the past 15ish years

I love my glasses and I HATE wearing contacts. I was asked to wear contacts for a video interview at work last week and flat refused. If I interview a wedding photographer who makes a thing out of my glasses I will look for someone else.
