I asked my photographer when I booked her if I should wear contacts for my wedding day, she was pretty adamant that I get some because she hates the glare glasses leave in photos and she would have to do lots of editing. I agreed to get some contacts a couple months before I got married so I could get used to wearing them. Well last week, I posed in some photos for this photography group I'm in and I took off my glasses for the pictures.

I absolutely hated every single picture of me! I feel like I didn't look like myself. I haven't worn contacts since I was 14. I mentioned to my photographer that I wanted to wear my glasses and she kind of freaked out a little bit. Basically told me I was going to be limited on the pictures I got back because of glares from the glasses.

My aunt is a photographer and she took our engagement photos, so I asked her. She told me there were a few poses she didn't edit because it looked like my eyes were closed because of my glasses. (cont in comments)

I love my glasses and I wear them all the time but I did engagement photos with and without them. I usually don't like myself with my glasses off but I loved both sets of pictures. My photographer loves to shoot with natural light so she rarely uses flash unless she has to. And she had us move around freely with some poses here and there. The pics with my glasses, there was no glare. I did love that pics without my glasses showed my makeup more. On my wedding day, I plan to do the same, some pics with glasses, some without. You should be able to have the best of both worlds if you want!

I think glasses are fine but I believe there are lenses that are less reflective/glare-y that might help? They are pricier but I imagine would be worth it! It's so important that you feel like yourself. And photos will pale in comparison to your body memories of the day!

As far as glare goes, our pics came out perfectly fine.

If you're more comfortable in glasses, you should wear your glasses! Your photographer should be able to handle glare and reflection if she's a professional. She shouldn't be asking you to change your appearance and comfort because she doesn't know how to ask you to pose or edit pictures!

I had a different glasses concern actually...I have the kind of glasses that tint automatically when you go out in the sun, and I was freaking out about them changing since I'm having an outdoor ceremony, lol. So I got a new pair without the tinting and it worked out perfectly with my engagement pics (see my avatar!). There was no glare in any of our pictures and we did a sunny outdoor shoot at the park. I have never and probably will never wear contacts since I have seasonal allergies that make me scratch my eyes, lol. A decent photographer will never tell you not to wear something you want to wear because SHE doesn't want to take the time to do her job correctly. My glasses are part of my character and they're staying Smiley smile

If you've always worn glasses and never contacts, then I wouldn't switch for just one day!

I find it hard to believe that professional photographer is incapable of effectively photographing someone in glasses. I know people with medical conditions which requires they only wear glasses. Your photographer is just going to have to deal with it. Boo hoo if she has to spend more time editing - that's her job.

As of right now my plan is to have my glasses off during the ceremony and posed pictures and then wear them for the reception. I recently started wearing glasses back in January so it's not a shock for people to see me without them on and contacts are not an option for me.

Honestly, editing out glare or preventing glare from glasses shouldn't be hard for a photographer to do.

I would definitely look in to anti-glare glasses. I have them and it makes a huge difference.

Is your photographer very experienced? I find it strange that she "kind of freaked out" unless she's pretty new to the profession.

I will be wearing my glasses for the whole thing, I just wouldn't look like me without them! I wore them for our proposal/engagement pics and has no problems with reflections or glares. I will say for my senior portraits in high school I had to send a set back because you could see some of the equipment in one of my lens. They retouched the photos and sent me a brand new set for free. I think that a professional should be able to work around it.

Anti-reflective coating glasses in a selfie with a terrible camera phone. Not too much reflection at all, I think a professional should definitely be able to take great pictures of you with your glasses on.

....and I don't know why the picture is sideways.

I feel you. I have that same problem. But I see it this way, I feel most comfortable and confident in my glasses, so the last thing I want is to look back at my pictures and not love how I look in them.

And I'm a photographer, and to be honest if your photographer is good, they can pose you correctly and use lighting correctly to limit the number of pictures that create glare, plus it's her job to provide the best pictures possible. And not yours to worry about glare. It can be edited most of the time very easily.

Thank you ladies, I'll talk to her again. She's not new to the profession or anything, she's done some amazing work. I'm not sure why she freaked out a little when I said I wanted to wear my glasses

@MNA I have astigmatism in my right eye and I wear contacts. I'm not sure If you knew but Acuvue offers contacts for astigmatism. I use those for my right eye and regular contacts for my left haha. Just an option in case you don't wanna see blurry Smiley smile
