Brides maids without flowers?? Is that ok?

TR, on December 27, 2011 at 4:49 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 34

So after going to look at flowers, I really dont want to spend over 300 on flowers. The lady suggested just doing two roses for the bridesmaids instead of a whole bouquet. The two roses were about $15 per BM as opposed to $35 for each BM bouquet. Would it be better to just not have the bridesmaid have any flowers as they walk down the aisle? Or is that too cheap of me? HELP!

You could have them carry something instead of flowers. Something DIY and it would be much cheaper. Or do the bouquets yourself.

Dear lord...are you good at putting together your own bouquets...even if they are small and simple? That's insane to make you pay $15 for only 2 roses! You can easily purchase 2 roses for $5 at the grocery story and tie a ribbon around it.

I spent about $300 give or take on all my flowers (mine, 5 bridesmaids and 4 FGs) AND centerpieces for 8 tables. All DIY. I used "real touch roses"

I'm interesting to see what this discussion sparks...

I think it would be interesting to see them carry something else but what... that's easy to hold and remember one of your girls is suppose to hold your bouquet during the ceremony, should you choose to have one.

15$ for 2 roses is still quite expensive, compared to 35 for a full bouquet is that normal for the area?

It's in Feb. so I wanted to do more of the winter romantic theme. My colors are ivory, navy blue and a touch of yellow. Many people have suggested I make the bouquets myself but I don't how nice they will turn out...

Where did you find the "real touch roses" ? They look wonderful! If i am going to make them myself I would prefer to use something like that so that I can make them ahead of time instead of waiting to the day before with real, natural roses.

Gee ... they could walk down the aisle with them closed and then for pictures you could have them opened.

I remember one bride on here showed pics of her fans she got on Etsy that I loved!! Or you could do a button bouquet. Those are pretty. Or Ive seen in winter themes before where they carried muffs. I thought that was really pretty too. Or a bouquet made of feathers. Or acorns.

TRod ... if you're wanting to save on money for flowers and still want flowers...maybe look into having your BMs carry baby's breath bouquets. Especially since you're wanting a winter romantic theme. Baby's breath is relatively cheap.

I got them at Hobby Lobby and a lot of the time they are on sale half off. (I dont think I paid full price for anything for my flowers/decor including all the materials to make them. (Thank you Hobby Lobby/Michaels coupons, sales)

My wedding planner did a wedding where the ladies carried matching clutches, and it doubled as their gift too, they could use them later.
