Bride - need a purse

Kristin, on May 7, 2011 at 8:28 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

So I'm making my list of what to buy - is it typical for brides to have a purse/wristlet for the big day?

I dunno, but I certainly bought a special clutch for my wedding day.

I have one, my Mom is holding it during the ceremony and is handing it over during our pics.

I don't think it's customary. I'd have some sort of bag to keep things in- behind the scenes. But as far as at the reception- you won't want to carry it around.

    I know I'm skipping it.

Yup, I kept all my stuff in a bag, but it was left in my car. I didnt want to be carrying something around and having to keep track of it.

I had one. I didn't carry it down the aisle with me. However, I needed to have cash available to pay the hair and make-up person, the photographer, and the restaurant where we had the luncheon after the ceremony. I needed to have my cell phone, in case guests or vendors had last-minute issues. (All right, I admit it--NotFroofy and I updated our Facebook status to married using our cell phones during the drive from ceremony to reception.) I needed a place to stow my opera gloves after the ceremony, since I wasn't going to wear them for eating. And I needed to have my car keys, and a credit card in case we had to buy gas.

I had been wondering about this - I do NOT want to carry anything around, but I have to bring my phone and wallet...I was thinking about stowing it in the trunk of the car or something, because I'm afraid I'll forget it at the reception otherwise...

I suggest you have a little clutch to carry your make-up for touch ups, oil absorbing wipes (small blue box the size of a credit card - takes off the shine without taking off the make-up) wisps, little mirror, and YOUR own personal Camera...

Have your MOH carry it (when you are busy with pictures), or at least have it on your head table, and when it is dance time and cut the cake time, have your MOH take pictures of you.

I was thinking of having one to serve as a "money bag," for the cocktail hour and when we walk around to all of the tables to say hello and welcome and thank you. Is it better to just carry all the envelopes in my hands (and then pass them off to the best man to put in our suite for safe keeping later in the night)? Is it better to have them in a purse while making the rounds?

I'm not really a purse girl to begin with, so there wouldn't be other "stuff" in there. I'm just wondering what will be easiest and what others have done.

I'm going to keep one under the table that has my medication, chronic migraine sufferer, lipstick, FH's meds, and a camera.

@Mary P.....Being Italian, I am totally a money bag girl. Actually, the one thing I have asked my daughter to do for her wedding is that she refrain from the card box and birdcage and follow the tradition, so as not to insult my side of the family, and the groom's entire family(Italian too). In our family, the person who holds is it usually the grandmother who doesn't get up to dance. Smiley winking lolol Trust me, noone steals that bag from a Nonnie!

Re an actual handbag, I have two. I will keep one(big one) in the bathroom with bigger things I need to refresh(brush, travel size hair spray, perfume, full make up and remover, mouthwash, q-tips, deodorant). I also have a clutch that matches my shoes for the little things Haley C mentioned. BTW...the oil absorbers are a girl's best friend, and add some lip balm or Clinique's Superbalm(love it) to your bag. It gives your lipstick a nice shine. I would also had breath mints to that list.

As Haley mentioned, I got a clutch for little things I might want during the reception, or during pictures. I want to be able to have my phone nearby during pictures, and will put my MOH in charge of it when we're doing our first look. My heels are teal, so I bought a cute teal clutch from Etsy in a similar shade. Really, it was just an excuse to buy a clutch I loved, but I will use it the day of, and again afterwards, I'm sure!

I bought this one to put my powder, lip gloss, gum and "chill out" tablets in. I didn't carry it around with me all night.
