Bride and Groom Toasting flutes, special cake knife and server- Silly tradition or something special?

I am just wondering how many people are actually getting toasting flutes and a special cake knife and server--is this a silly tradition or something worth doing? What do you think? We are having a romantic/vintage theme wedding, and I was thinking of getting some pretty etched 1920s champange...

We are having a romantic/vintage theme wedding, and I was thinking of getting some pretty etched 1920s champange glasses and and an antique server and cake knife.

I got toasting flutes because there was a set I fell in love with, and wanted for the day. The knife I got on closeout from the knot. I really feel it is "to each their own" with this tradition.

I am totally doing this haha. I am a sentimental person and I also love personalized/engraved things. I have Mrs. & Mrs. with our names and date toasting flutes picked out and also a cake & knife set that has our names and date engraved on the server. We have a large, built-in hutch in our dining room that we love so they'll be displayed there after the wedding!

We got a cake and knife set from our florist for booking with her Smiley smile I might decorate it with some ribbon...do I need it engraved? nope...just got a engraved cake topper for $5.95 from knot wedding shop...that'll do... If someone buys us the toasting flutes in time for our wedding we'll use them...other wise I hear the venue has some glasses to drink out of it.. lol

We got the gorgeous Kate Spade darling point flutes and cake cutting set. I look forward to using them to celebrate anniversaries and for all that fun stuff in the future.

We didn't do either. We used a table knife to cut our cake...worked perfectly fine. We used our water glasses to drink out of...my groom had a flannel pattern mug with a lid I gave him to drink his adult beverage out of and I drank water most of the night out of my water glass.

Neither ment anything to me but if they do to you then that is great. We did bring our chairs from home to the event though for us to sit on during the reception as that meant something to me. I loved the idea of bringing our daily life to the special day and then bringing the special day back into our daily life.

Our venue told us it was kind of a waste of money, so we're passing.

We're skipping both. Just another thing to keep track of and then lose in the back of a drawer or closet afterwards. Definitely not worth the money IMO.

I really like the idea of engraved personalized flutes - as others have mentioned it makes a great keepsake.... I think we are going to do a dessert buffet and just get a cake with one real layer to cut, so won't be splurging on a serving set Smiley smile

These were a nice added touch and a special gift from my mother. I was doing a lot of planning on my own so I thought I would have to buy all these things, but my mom insisted they are a good gift option from the parents. Cake cutter says "Love is Sweet Natassia & Chris August, 31, 2014." The glasses say "Chris & Natassia Today...Tomorrow...Forever August 31, 2014."

Planning on skipping this. Well we aren't having a cake so clearly skipping the serving set. Heh. But toasting flutes I don't think are necessary... But I think people should do whatever they want for their own weddings. The link you included for those glasses - they're gorgeous! Smiley smile

Oh I should mention my FMIL gave us some frosted plastic, colourful LED light up toasting flutes. Umm... yeah. I am hoping FH forgets about them so that they do not make an appearance.

My sister gave me a gorgeous set of toasting flutes she found on sale at Dillards. They are silver-stemmed with Cala Lilies, my favorite flower.

If I don't receive any as a gift between now and the wedding, I'll probably borrow my sister's serving set.

FH and I are having more fun than anything looking at cake toppers. I was really surprised and pleased with how he got into it. I want something special that shows both our personalities. We found quite a few we like.

We ended up skipping it. Our venue provided flutes and a cake cutting knife. I registered for a personal set and figured if we got it for a gift before the wedding then I'd use it and if we didn't then no big deal.

I bought some cheap toasting flutes to personalize, however IDK if they will really get used. (if not they will be cute to set out either way, & the serving/Cutting knife set was given to my free (will be redecorating as well) so I have them. but IDK if I would have actually spent the $$ if they weren't given to me.

We won't be getting these. My last set sat never touched again for 10+ years and then got tossed.

I have no idea what we drank out of 27 years ago.

But, we used my great-grandmother's carving knife to cut the cake.

When I officiated at my brother's wedding, I let him use the same knife to cut his cake.

Ask your relatives for the loan of a family heirloom. My mom made sure our knife made it home.

We got the toasting flutes for free at a show we went to. We bought our serving set at Hobby Lobby.

I got crystal flutes that were regular price $120 for $12. I didn't really care that much but someone I was shopping with talked me into them.

FH wants to get a nice cake serving set. I think it is something we will get future use out of. We bought our cake stand as well, even though our cake lady had a large selection to choose from that we could rent.

I wasn't planning on doing either then the knot had a sale so ... I think I got both for under $20. If they were more expensive I prob would have passed on them
