Bride and Groom Toasting flutes, special cake knife and server- Silly tradition or something special?

Nicoletta, on December 31, 2014 at 8:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 45

I am just wondering how many people are actually getting toasting flutes and a special cake knife and server--is this a silly tradition or something worth doing? What do you think? We are having a romantic/vintage theme wedding, and I was thinking of getting some pretty etched 1920s champange glasses and and an antique server and cake knife.

My FMIL bought is our Vera wang champagne flutes and cake server set. She spent way too much but they're gorgeous!

We didn't do it, and I never missed it. Somehow I had a glass to toast with and a cake knife to cut the cake. In the end, it's just one more thing to store in the long run. You will have lots of mementos from the day. I would say it's a total waste of money, but that's just me.

We may get a knife set but not the flutes. I think they are all something pretty you can have on display in your house.

I want the flutes as a keepsake, but the cake cutting, we are borrowing those from my sister . You only use them for one minute, not worth the expense

The venue already has a knife and cake cutter, they also have toasting flutes, but I was thinking of getting the antique ones for us.

My mom bought us toasting flutes as an engagement present, otherwise I wouldn't bother. I'm not going to spend money on a cake cutting set--definitely not worth it IMO. I don't think you'd even notice these in pictures.

These are the style of toasting glasses I am looking at, they are from the 1920s/1930s

We got toasting flutes. I want to keep them forever and toast every year on our anniversary. The knife we don't care about.

We got both, we're excited to have nice keepsakes to have forever! The toasting flutes were free (weird fluke coupon we got in the mail sent to the previous residents of our apartment allowed us to get awesome flutes for free) and our knife set was discounted big time at The Knot Shop and we got a nice engraving for fun. I love details like this!

Can't imagine hanging on to my toasting flutes and cake cutter until my kids get married-- which is the only thing that'd make it worth getting special ones.

I bought engraved toasting flutes on closeout and they will be a nice keepsake and I plan to use them again on our 1st anniversary. I bought a gorgeous serving set from a girl who cancelled her wedding...well, her bf never actually never proposed....for $15. I will pass it on to someone else after the wedding. I have a young lady in mind already who just got engaged at Christmas. Smiley smile

Honestly, if they weren't included in our package we would not have gotten them. As it was my FIL gave us a set of toasting flutes that we didn't use but it was a nice gesture. If you want vintage, I think that would be a neat touch but I don't think its that important.

We bought our toasting flutes from dollar tree. They were our blue color. I don't even know where they are now. No special cake cutting set for us either. Didn't see the point.

We are skipping out on both the flutes and cutting set, rather put the money toward something else.

I was planning on skipping it altogether to save money but my mother just gave us the most gorgeous deep red crystal toasting flutes (that match the color of my accessories and my and FH favorite color) for Christmas. So yeah, that's gonna happen now and we will happily toast with them on each anniversary.

I think we are passing on them. If we get a server set it would be a cheap one, and no on the flutes...I think we're toasting with old fashioned coca cola bottles.

We did both and then some.

Our toasting flutes were actually leather goblets I got in London (we're Shakespeare/Tudor nerds).

The cake serving set is one thing we actually can use over and over - instead of expensive table decorations or something else that will only be used once.

And then we got vintage silver dessert forks with our names engraved (Mr. ____ and Mrs. _____). I got those from Etsy.

They are gorgeous, but imo an unnecessary expense. We are skipping both, especially since FH and I are not champagne drinkers.
