Bride and groom giving wedding gifts to each other?

Megan, on January 3, 2014 at 10:50 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 17

I heard that it is/was customary that the bride and groom would buy each other a wedding gift, which they exchanged during the honeymoon. Is this practice out of date? Has anyone heard of this being a tradition?

I'm not sure what to get as a gift if it is still a tradition? I'm guessing that getting him a new video game would be inappropriate for this event and I'm also assuming that the lingerie doesn't count as a gift for this. Right now my best thought is some 100% pure silk boxers as he said he use to have one (that someone stole) and they were his favorite boxers because he found them so comfortable.

I think this is more of a new think not really a tradition. I didn't do it with my husband because we both couldn't think of anything to give and it seemed sort of forced. If it's something that the both of you really want to do then do it, just remember you don't have to do everything that is deemed a "tradition". I didn't do the something borrowed, something blue *GASP*.

We were going to do the gift think but didn't thought that our money is better spent elsewhere.

We did it because we wanted to. I got the Kate Spade "mrs" necklace, and he picked out a Fossil watch he wanted.

I would like to do this, but it will depend on $. If I do, it will be photos from a boudoir shoot. If he got me anything, I have a necklace I'd love to wear on my wedding day, that I'd never splurge on myself for... but I haven't even said anything, so who knows?

I bought DH new bed slats. It's not terribly romantic, but that 's what he wanted, and it was kinda expensive, so that's what he got. He gave me blue diamond earrings to match my e-ring and be my something blue.

We got married 26 years ago and exchanged gifts before the wedding (he got me a diamond pendant he wanted me to wear that day). I had a money clip made for him.

I think this is more of a new thing. We're doing it because we want pictures of us exchanging them before the ceremony starts. We aren't doing a first look, but we'll have a wall or door between us as we exchange gifts so we can't see each other - but hold hands and so our photographer can capture the moment. I'm just getting him a personalized pocket watch or flask - not sure which one yet.

I want us to get each other cologne/purfume to wear that day and every year on our anniversary. Along with a note to read the night before.

Many people choose not to, but some do. It depends on what you want to do. We did. I bought H a gun and he bought me a car.

I'm with Erin, with our budget stretching at the seams, this is something to easily cut for us.

Its often sent over while you are dressing, ive seen schmancy rich people send eachother a watch to the groom and diamonds/tiffanys to the bride before theyve seen eachother.

I'm with Erin, the only gift we are giving each other is the honeymoon. We share everything money wise so it just wouldn't make sense to give any more.

My husband gave me a piece of art. He had a sketch of my dress created. It was breathtaking. My best friend and husband to be will be exchanging this gift for after the wedding. I have been giving this as shower gifts too. I love personalized and this is perfect. https://www.weddingwire.com/biz/dreamlines-dress-sketch-o-fallon/312df29d678919b5.html
