Bridal Shower Guest List

Jen, on March 27, 2012 at 7:59 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

So my MOH keeps asking me for a guest list for my bridal shower, which will be some time in July. She said I should invite 60 people and then 20-30 people will come. I think this number is way too high and I don't really want that many people to come. What do you ladies think? How many people did you invite or are you going to invite? Also how many do you expect to actually come?

Just invite the people you want to invite! I wouldn't go for a number of guests - just think about the actual people you want to be there.

I think I put 40 people on my guest list and about 25 attended. Out of the 15 who didn't attend, most are family members from OOT, a few were locals who had schedule conflicts, and one was a friend of mine who declined b/c she "hates showers, no offense." No offense taken. Smiley smile

I agree with the other ladies, invite who YOU want. While your MOH probably means well there shouldnt be a structure of how many...

I invited about 60 and about 45 came. Those who didnt were mainly OOT guests. HOWEVER, warning here I did run into one problem where people from FH side were upset they did not get invited (I really had no idea who they were) and this made FMIL very upset. Make sure you don't forget really important people on his side !!

I invited every single woman invited to my wedding, and allowed my guests to bring a guest (since people tend to not like showing up alone) as long as it was a female guest of course! I invited about 50 people and 25 showed up. I believe the shower is for everyone, and the bachellorette party is where you get to be picky, for that I'm having 6 people. JMO

I invited 22 I expect 18-20 to show up. This includes friends, coworkers & family from both sides. I really didn't want to invite everyone I knew Smiley smile

Thanks Ladies, I will invite less people. I did feel the pressure to invite more people since she said to invite 60. I think I will cut that list in half and only invite the people I really want there which would be about 30. I am afraid if I invite 60, most of them will come and it might be too much for me. Thanks for the advice Smiley smile

I know for mine I will invite every female who is on my guest list. This of course would not include any "random" +1s for male friends or family who aren't in relationships or who we haven't met their girlfriend (we have friends and family ALL over the country). While this is a lot of people my guests are spread from maine to Florida out to California so I'll have a low acceptance rate as I feel it's unreasonable to fly somewhere for a shower.

I'm having two showers (one in June and one in July) and each list looks like about 30-35 people, so about 60-65 people total. Don't know how many will show up, but I'm open to the max.

I Invited 120 people and 110 attended. The amount of people invited should be based on several factors. Such as what type of shower you would like to have? In what type of venue? A hall, someones home, a restaurant? The most important is who is paying for the shower? In my experience I have not often heard of only half of an invite list responding to come to the shower so it may not be a good idea to assume that may happen. I did not want a large shower but I have a very large family so I did not have much of a choice. It was worth it and I had a great time.

My shower will be a complete suprise so I don't know when it will be but I'm guessing some time this summer. My family invites every woman invited to the wedding to the shower. Right now that is 87 women. We only do one because we see it as a way for the two sides to come together. I am estimating about 65 will show.

I've been to showers where every female invited to the wedding was invited to the shower (I think there were about 60-70 people there) and I was just at a shower last weekend where there were only 8 girls there. They were both fun. So I think it's up to you!

@Char, it is a Phalaenopsis Orchid. I have stared at this profile pic and also wondered if it would be considered purple or pink. I think its kind of a mix but more pink, if that's possible. Also I would think that any florist would sell them if your looking for this flower. They are pretty pricey though. You can also order them on various sites. One site I saw them on was fiftyflowers.com.

Thanks everyone, you guys are giving me a better idea of what to expect. My initial thought was to invite all the ladies that are invited to the wedding since I was advised to shoot to invite 60. I guess I am worried about playing games and being able to connect with everyone if there were too many people. I just really need to make a decision and figure out how many because my MOH is being a total bug-a-boo, Lol, which is good to know she's on top of things though.

I think 15-20 is a good number... I hated when My mom through me a baby shower and i didn't know half of the ladies there, it makes me feel awkward plus I dont like being in the spotlight.
