Bouquet Alternative

Newnoakua, on June 19, 2017 at 1:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 95

So we aren't having any flowers at our wedding. I've been thinking about what the bridesmaids would hold instead of a bouquet then. I've thought about doing clutches or something, but I was wondering if you did something other than a bouquet what did you use or have seen around. I've googled but I like hearing from other people as well. It's not a money thing when it comes to the flowers; I just really hate flowers. So fake flowers or paper flowers aren't what I'm looking for either.

I don't really understand how anyone 'hates' flowers....and your BM' probably don't. What's behind that?

I have never seen any bridal party carry parasols, clutches, old books, giant balloons,or last week's NY Times and not look awkward.

Bouquets,in addition to being props and decor, are a form of gifts to your BM's. I'm sure most BM's are at least a little happy when they see their bouquets. Not so much with a fan.....

@Celia - I just don't like flowers, there isn't really a reason behind it. I don't find them pretty or pleasing. I've already mentioned it to the girls and they are okay without a bouquet, but they requested something else instead so that they had something to hold/do with their hands. Which is why I'm looking for an alternative.

One of my bridesmaid, at her wedding, had her bridesmaids carry wands. She got married at Disneyland.

Do you have any type of theme or destination for your wedding?

@Kitty - No real theme. There are touches of geeky things (like game music and such) but no other big thing.

In my oppinion some form of flower (real, silk, paper, etc) is a vital aspect of a wedding. I've never been to a wedding without flowers. Honestly no matter what else your try to use, its gonna look strange.

@Natalie - I'm not holding anything. I'll be holding my dad's arm on the way down, and then me and FH will hold hands during the ceremony

We're not doing flowers either - I have allergy issues. I'm "planning" to do a brooch bouquet and have been researching brooch bouquets for my BM's.

I say, "planning" because I have seen lots of pretty pictures of the brooch bouquets only, but haven't found many pics actually being used. All of the ones I've seen look too small.

Agree 1000% with Celia. I don't understand how anyone can "hate" flowers to banish them from a wedding. I've been to a wedding where they carried candles and it looked incredibly awkward

I understand that I'm in the minority when it comes to flowers, but I just don't like them. I think everybody has their own taste so I'm just trying to find something that works with mine Smiley smile

Why do they have to carry anything? The guys don't hold anything and just cross their hands in front. Girls can do the same.

PS - I'm team flowers, but hey, it's your wedding......

Are you completely against anything plant-like or just flowers? You could do some sort of in season greenery bouquet, if it fits with the aesthetic of your wedding.

I've seen a lot of brides use just greenery and succulents for the floral arrangements. Maybe that would be ok? Or are you against nature altogether??

Not every person in the world likes flowers, and that's okay!

The lanterns would be nice if that goes with your decor theme. Or a bouquet that is not flowers, like a brooch bouquet (that are just fun designs not floral). You can use geeky brooches or pins to add a little more geeky feel to the wedding! If the ceremony is outside you can do pinwheels. If your location doesn't have issues with candles you can do non drip candles.

I personally think balloons look a bit awkward.

However, my favorite would be puppies! Even though it's definitely not practical haha!
