I’m a relatively new vegan (just under a year!) so I’m encountering a problem with a wedding I will be attending this summer. I got the invite with the meal selection card and there’s only a vegetarian option. How have other vegan guests handled a situation like this? I’m sure I could find something...
I’m a relatively new vegan (just under a year!) so I’m encountering a problem with a wedding I will be attending this summer. I got the invite with the meal selection card and there’s only a vegetarian option. How have other vegan guests handled a situation like this? I’m sure I could find something to eat, but there’s some stuff in the vegetarian option I can’t eat. Any advice will help!

I just feel like that sounds so like entitled. Like I wouldn’t be like “omg, I can’t have that,” because they sound like they are just unaware what veganism is and why. Personally I would say depending how close I was with this person, “you know I appreciate that, but being vegan means I can’t have meat or dairy.” And let it go. I do however think if the bride and groom’s caterer can’t accommodate it, the bride and groom can expect that guest to decline. Listen, the choice to be vegan is that person’s alone- but it’s not the bride and groom’s responsibility or obligation to cater to that guest. Although, if I had a guest who was vegan and told me, I would definitely ask my caterer. I’m fact, I knew I had a potentially vegan guest and asked my caterer immediately and they were happy to make a separate meal for her.
