Beer and Wine

Anonymous, on September 1, 2012 at 5:59 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 32

Is anyone doing beer and wine only at there wedding reception. I'm seriously considering it for cost reasons, but I know how I would feel if I went to a wedding and they only served beer and wine.... Comments?

I don't drink beer or wine, but I wouldn't complain or be upset at the lack of other choices. It's not my celebration or $$.

We are only doing beer, sodas and maybe wine. You must feed your guests and give them something to drink. It does not have to contain alcohol. You could just give them a bottle of water.

I think it's great to serve whatever you can afford. Beer and wine is totally great! It's a wedding, not a bar - people shouldn't show up expecting to see every beverage under the sun. You're serving something and people don't have to open their wallets to get it. That's perfect.

We served hard liquor, but it's not like we served every alcoholic beverage under the sun either. We kept it simple b/c it was easier on our budget to not buy every single mixer, garnish, etc. So we chose the things our crowd drinks and what we like, and bought those things in bulk, and it was way easier. If somebody showed up craving rum or tequila or triple sec or champagne they would have been SOL. But we were fine with that. Smiley smile

My venue provides the soda and mixers and juice just no alcohol . If no full bar what have some of you done for alcohol; meaning what did you end up buying?

Beer, wine and signature drink sounds perfect.

Can you buy your own booze and have it served there? Or do you have to buy an alcohol package from your caterer?

We didn't technically have a "full bar" - we were able to buy our own booze and have our caterer serve it, so we just chose what we and our crowd like. Also we were able to return what we didn't use, as long as the bottles/cases were unopened, which was great. Saved us a lot of money.

    We served:

Wine - full red, sweet red, dry white, sweet white, sparkling

Beer - 2 light beers, 2 ethnic ones

    Jameson

    Hennessy

    Seagram's

    vodka

    gin

    seltzer

    sprite

    coke

    diet coke

    OJ/cran

    vitamin water

    red bull

    bottled water

    lemons/limes/oranges/cherries

We plan to do beer, wine, champagne toast, and signature drinks. We've mentioned this to a few people and no one seems to mind. Who would complain about 'free' drinks?

We had beer, wine, soda, and a signature cocktail. The best man drinks a particular mixed drink, so I had it put on our tab. I know some people feel it's tacky not to have a full open bar...they often use the reasoning that you wouldn't have someone over to your house and charge them for a drink. My feeling is that I wouldn't have a full open bar at my house either...but I'd offer a decent variety of drinks. So that's what we did at the wedding. It saved us money to be used on more important things.

We are, because our venue (in a county park) doesn't allow us to bring in hard liquor.

We did beer and wine and our guests loved it. We had no complaints but I would not of cared if they did complain. I wasn't hosting an all you can drink and get drunk party. I wanted to keep it still elegant. We had our wedding at a winery so of course we had to have their wines

I would rather beer and wine only than no bar at all.

We served beer, wine and had a sangria fountain at our wedding. We provided all the alcohol. Our caterer provided soda. We chose to do just beer and wine (and sangria) mainly because of the time of our wedding with it being in the afternoon. I didn't feel the need to have a full bar at 1 in the afternoon. It worked well for us and our situation and our guests.

I don't know if you are aware of this, but if you are providing your own alcohol, check with local liquor stores about returning any unused/unopened bottles/cases. If allows you to order plenty, making sure you have enough, and then return the extra while only paying for consumption.

I am a normal fun drinker, and beer and wine is great. A signature coctail or two allows for those non-wine/beer drinkers to enjoy. We are doing beer and wine and 1 coctail I think. My cousin that is voted *by me* most-likely-to-get-very-wasted-at-our-wedding told me that it can get too wild if you have an open bar w/ hard liquor, so I think it's the best bet all around! We are also doing only beer and wine, the help with the budget. A majority of our guest drink beer or wine anyways and it cut $5 per person off
