Beach weddings and elderly

Laura, on August 15, 2011 at 1:01 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

So I have a complicated situation. My FH is from Utah, I am from Cincinnati. He is stationed in Georgia not far from Myrtle Beach, SC where we want to have our wedding. We are renting a huge house that holds 20, we are having the wedding on the beach in the back of the house and the reception at the house. I want my grandmother to come. She is on dialysis and has to be flown in the day of the wedding and out the next morning. She can walk but only with great support, she is normally in a wheel chair. Since the ceremony is on the beach I am worried about accommodating her to get to her seat. His grandmother may have the same problem. Any suggestions on how to make this easier? I have been trying to think of a way to make this work.

Can someone(s) carry her across the sand to/from her seat?

What if you got a tartan mat for the aisle. It will make it easier for the wheelchairs to roll, and still give the beach vibe.

They actually make beach wheelchairs you can rent (see pic) I was going to have the same problem with my elderly grandmother for our beach wedding.

Are you able to have the ceremony close to the solid walk way?

Unfortunately, this company doesn't service Myrtle Beach (they are in Wilmington, NC).......but they make a "walkway". www.beachsideoccasions.com Don't know how much it would be or how much you are willing to spend......

My local Parks & Recreation Dept. provides those wheelchairs w/big tires for the public beach.

Laura, check also with rental companies. There are a couple here that rent baby & toddler accessories (strollers, cribs, highchairs, etc.) and also rent the beach wheelchairs.
