Beach Wedding on Lake Michigan

Love113, on February 5, 2013 at 7:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

Is anyone out there having a beach wedding on Lake Michigan, in Michigan?!

I could use some direction on where on Lake Michigan to have a beach wedding ceremony & reception.

It's more difficult than I had thought!

Any advice or suggestions would be helpful!

Thank you (:

Look I to the St. Joe Michigan area. Very pretty, they have a pavilion right by the river/ lake that has weddings all summer.

I've been looking in the St Joe area, Saugatuck, South Haven, Grand Haven & Traverse City.

However, trying to find venues right on the water is a difficult task!

Do either of you know of any?

So far, I've come up with Shadowland, Veranda & Bil-Mar Restaurant.

Are you planning on having an outdoor wedding in October? Or is that date not yet set?

Just curious.. because that can be sort of risky in Michigan! Smiley smile

I can't think of any right on Lake Mich.. but in TC, there are several beautiful wineries that have views of the bays!

Lol, well that is a tricky question...the date is set if we get married in Florida gulf but the date is not set if we get married on Lake Michigan.

We are still deciding! We have venues & everything to look at in Florida so now we are trying to come up with venues on Lake Michigan.

However, we live in Metro Detroit & we all know, Michigan weather is extremely unpredictable! We just had 60 degree weathe followed by 17 degree weather the next day! It's crazy!

I might be wrong, but when I looked into Shadowland, I think I remember it being only near the beach... Like a block or two away. The Verandah at the Whitcomb is super pretty. That was my first choice, but FH didn't want our guests (most of which are local) to travel over an hour to get there (give me a break, right?)

Spring Lake Country Club in Grand Haven is not on the beach, but they are on Spring Lake (obvi), and you can get married down by the water and docks. My cousin had his wedding there over the summer, and it was beautiful.

Check out Petoskey if you're willing to travel north. There are so many beautiful venues up there. The Perry Hotel being one of them.

Megan, I have looked into both Shadowland & Veranda but haven't heard back from them yet. They are on the beach & do look really pretty. I will look into Spring Lake; thank you! I didn't even think to check Petoskey! I was also looking into Glen Arbor (Homestead) & Traverse City. The Homestead wouldn't be bad but they charge A LOT for their site fees. (Over $4k just for the fees) That is out of our budget! Where did you decide to have your wedding?

The Lakeshore Chapel in Saugatuck is right on Lake Michigan. They are seasonal, only the main summer months. I know in the past they have had ceremonies on the beach, and possible receptions on the beach with white event tent set up. I believe they are lower than some of the other options that you mentioned.

Our venue is located 3 miles in from the lakeshore near the Fennville, MI exit of I-196. If you did not want to have a reception on the beach, because of the unpredictable weather on the shore. You could always have the ceremony at the beach (possible Pier Cove or West Side County Park) and have the reception with us. Check us out, so of our pictures may be able to give you some ideas of nothing else. I wish you the best of luck!

Try looking at the resources on this site: http://freshcoastweddings.com/

I'm from the Southwestern Michigan area, St. Joe is an absolutely GORGEOUS place to get married. If I didn't have my heart set on a garden, it would've been on the beach in St. Joe Smiley smile I don't know exactly who you would contact about using them as a venue, but my favorite beaches are Lion's Beach, Tiscornia Park, and Hagar Beach. Bonus: they're all relatively secluded, so you're less likely to have people wandering through your ceremony in the middle of your vows. Another option if you want to be on a Michigan beach is at Fuller's Clear Lake. It's not on Lake Michigan, but Clear Lake is lovely too and they have a lovely barn on the property if rustic is your thing. Sorry for the super long post, I get so excited about Michigan beach weddings Smiley smile Good luck with your planning, hope this helps Smiley laugh

I am getting married in Grand Haven! But not on the beach, I would recommend Spring Lake Country Club, they have a BEAUTIFUL weeping willow tree right by the water (not the big lake) but Spring Lake, and its really nice. You can also check out the Spring Lake Holiday Inn, they do outdoor wedding ceremonies by the marina, very pretty as well!

My FH is from Grand Haven so it is like a 2nd home to me, I LOVE it there, here is the link for beach weddings in GH...

Thanks Ashley! I'm def looking into St Joe & Traverse City area the most, now that I've done more research. I am just having a hard time finding a venue. Do you have any recommendations? I heard back from Veranda today..still waiting on Shadowland. I've also contacted the Vineland Center.

Melissa, thank you very much for the site! I will have to look into it!!

I'm just not sure about Spring Lake. I kinda really wanted it to be on Lake Michigan.

    Courtney,

Did you find a venue in Michigan yet? I am having the same problem you were having. We really want to get married on Lake Michigan, but can not find the perfect venue.

If anyone has any advise I would greatly appreciate it.

    Lisa,

Actually we decided on Siesta Key Beach, Florida! I was torn between the two because I wanted more family to be able to attend but I decided to do what I really wanted, which was Siesta Key! Sorry!

I see the OP resolved her location question, but for others interested, I'm getting married at the Christian Reformed Conference Grounds on Lake Michigan in Grand Haven. Here are a few other spots I've found:
