Backhanded compliment vent. Updated!

My mom just called me. She told me she saw my recent picture from Disneyland and told me how good she thinks I look since I lost weight. She then proceeded to tell me how bad I looked in a picture I took 2 months before at Seaworld. She told me I looked "lumpy and bumpy" in the yoga pants I was...

My mom just called me. She told me she saw my recent picture from Disneyland and told me how good she thinks I look since I lost weight. She then proceeded to tell me how bad I looked in a picture I took 2 months before at Seaworld. She told me I looked "lumpy and bumpy" in the yoga pants I was wearing, and she's glad I'm losing weight.

I wanted to yell at her, but I refrained. It was so hurtful. I think she just doesn't consider the words she's saying, but it sure seemed like a backhanded compliment. Any one else dealing with these kind of comments in the months leading up to your wedding?

You are gorgeous! I'm glad she posted that picture.. Maybe it is her way of an apology? Either way, (and I know how hard it can be) but don't listen to any of the negativity. Trust us, the strangers of WW when we say, "damn girl!!!" Smiley smile

Thanks Meg, this was definitely a confidence boost, even though I wasn't asking for one! Everyone has been so nice. I just wanted to make sure I was the sane one and she was the crazy one!

I think women, especially moms like that, are projecting their own insecurities about their weight/body type, unfortunately. Don't let it get you down!

I don't see any lumps at all, just a gorgeous woman. I'm sorry your mom said that hurtful comment. My mom sometimes like to say my a** is bigger than hers, which isn't true...It's just not super small, but it isn't like a kardashian butt either, so I really never understand that comment. Take what your mom says with a grain of salt. She's prob just jealous.

My mom has no butt, just big boobs. We are the opposite. She thinks big butts are unattractive. So weird

Firstly, you are stunning. Secondly, my dad I've told me I should try to get on The Biggest Loser "because you're so competitive!" Thanks, Dad. I think I was a size 16/ 18 at the time. Our parents are screwed up humans. They screw us up. It's some weird rite of passage. But don't listen you her. Your body is bangin'!!

My mom is CONSTANTLY talking to me about my weight. And yea, i'm no stick figure, but I love my body and i'm working on it. Wanna know the very, very FIRST thing she said to me when I told her i was engaged? "Oh good, now you can lose weight for the wedding." WTAF?? so, yea. I get it. Don't let her get to you, even though that is very hard. And girl, You look stunning!!!

You don't have to post a single picture to prove anything, FMF. Mothers and daughters have a symbiotic relationship that is so complicated and deep that when mom says something negative, it will take 200 positive posts to even invade the space she so freely occupies.

What your mother said was wrong...dead wrong. Listen, it's one thing for mother to square her shoulders and approach her morbidly obese daughter (not you -- it's an example, so don't even go there, okay?) because she is truly terrified about her daughter's Type II diabetes, high blood pressure, and chronic joint pain. It's quite another to insult her daughter because mom sees her daughter as an extension of herself. There are books written on this subject.

It's long, complicated, and the mother/daughter connection has been analyzed for years. For now, FutureMrsFox, I want you to know that you are not lumpy, bumpy, or anything else. And because I don't want you to value yourself based on the amount of men (and women) who checked you out while you were looking over that fence while wearing those hot pink stretchies, I won't tell you how many I believe actually did exactly that.

I feel ya. I'm a plus size woman and get these comments from family like always. Not just now that I'm getting married. I've head it so much that it just rolls off me anymore. I hope you don't take it to heart. Everyone is unique and beautiful
