Backhanded compliment vent. Updated!

My mom just called me. She told me she saw my recent picture from Disneyland and told me how good she thinks I look since I lost weight. She then proceeded to tell me how bad I looked in a picture I took 2 months before at Seaworld. She told me I looked "lumpy and bumpy" in the yoga pants I was...

My mom just called me. She told me she saw my recent picture from Disneyland and told me how good she thinks I look since I lost weight. She then proceeded to tell me how bad I looked in a picture I took 2 months before at Seaworld. She told me I looked "lumpy and bumpy" in the yoga pants I was wearing, and she's glad I'm losing weight.

I wanted to yell at her, but I refrained. It was so hurtful. I think she just doesn't consider the words she's saying, but it sure seemed like a backhanded compliment. Any one else dealing with these kind of comments in the months leading up to your wedding?

Thanks for your input Rachel, I'm sure those books would be very intriguing. I definitely value myself based on much more important things than just my body, haha Smiley smile

Actually she is a loving mother. She just doesn't want me to "turn out like her". She loves me, but she words things very poorly, so I called her out on it.

Hi! Brown lady's daughter here lol. I swear they mean well but damn some moms lack all types of filters haha. I totally get what you mean when you say she speaks like this and yet we can still say with certainty that our mothers are still loving. Stay lumpy, my friend because it's working!

Yes my mom makes comments like that all the time. It doesn't bother me. I think she just doesn't understand social "rules" like that you shouldn't say things like that to people. She has no filter. She tells me my hips are wide and my stomach sticks out and I need to lose weight and my boobs are small, etc. she's so ridiculous.

She says your boobs are small?? Wow. Mine are too, I'd be pissed. Not like we can change that....well, with surgery

I feel as though most moms do that to a certain extent. They feel like because they pushed you out of their vag and took care of you, it makes them entitled to say whatever and however. I love my mom to pieces, but she really has a way of putting things that get under my skin or pull at my self-esteem.
