Backhanded compliment vent. Updated!

My mom just called me. She told me she saw my recent picture from Disneyland and told me how good she thinks I look since I lost weight. She then proceeded to tell me how bad I looked in a picture I took 2 months before at Seaworld. She told me I looked "lumpy and bumpy" in the yoga pants I was...

My mom just called me. She told me she saw my recent picture from Disneyland and told me how good she thinks I look since I lost weight. She then proceeded to tell me how bad I looked in a picture I took 2 months before at Seaworld. She told me I looked "lumpy and bumpy" in the yoga pants I was wearing, and she's glad I'm losing weight.

I wanted to yell at her, but I refrained. It was so hurtful. I think she just doesn't consider the words she's saying, but it sure seemed like a backhanded compliment. Any one else dealing with these kind of comments in the months leading up to your wedding?

I need to let something else out, too, while I'm at it. She found out I was no longer a virgin 2 years ago ( I'm now 25). She was livid and told me to " go f*ck the world"

Her standards for me are unlivable most of the time. She says dramatic things to shake me up.

Yea that is not okay, I am glad that you texted herb I have a close friend who is super close to her mom but her mom always tells her to lose weight. It affects her more than she likes to let on.

The other day at my final dress fitting my mom goes "girl you gained some weight this dress is not fitting the same." I was like mom you can't say that to a bride 9 days before their wedding even if it's true. Mind you, we were there because my dress was being taken in so obviously it was tighter. Lol sometimes moms can be so dense. I didn't take it personally though just thought it was funny.

Your mom's expectations are high and very unrealistic. You can spend your life jumping to meet them, or you can just live authentically and be happy with yourself. It took me years to learn that.

@ Jacks, I'm definitely learning to ignore them, because they are quite ridiculous and unrealistic!

I'm happy to see that you realize her expectations are not realistic...don't worry about it! It's always more of a reflection of the person saying the words than whom they are said to...her issue; not yours Smiley smile

I apparently have a habit of giving back handed compliments to my sister. I absolutely don't do it on purpose and I hate that I do. I need to watch myself better.

An example.... she was going off about something that happened at work the other day. She was telling me she didn't say a word to the guy that flipped out on her, which I totally believe her. But she can also say words with her body language without saying anything, I've been subject to her looks of sustain. So I mentioned that she didn't have to say anything to "say" anything. She got upset, but it is the truth. And I felt like she should realise this about herself. I didn't say it to hurt her feelings, and I stood up for her that the guy shouldn't have said what he did to her.

Or the fact that she is dramatic, she is who she is and I accept and love her for it.

I believe it's good to be self aware, when it comes to parts of your personality and how others can react to that. Not that it's bad or wrong. I hope to god that I haven't made her feel self conscious about her body. She already has issues there. I always try to tell her how beautiful she is, she is absolutely beautiful. And OP. You look fantastic. I wish I had a booty like that! Ignore your mom's backhanded complement. I really doubt she said to be hurtful. But I am also glad that you told her it was hurtful. Sometimes our mouths get away from us before we think of how we say something. But she needs to know or she can't work on it. Im working on mine. Much love.

Lol! Did you tell her that those lumps are a nice ass and it's supposed to look that way?

Seriously, she's out of her mind.

That's the kinda ass I'd point out to FH and say, "wow, look at her!" (in a good way). And Jesus Christ, that hair is amazing!

I'm sorry your mom is acting this way. My parents do the same kinda thing. For example, I am really worried if I lose one more pound, I'll be too small for my dress and it will fall right off! My mom said, "dont' worry about it we will go find you a new dress....KEEP LOSING!" I'm over here like, "Eff you, I love my dress! I want to wear that one not some last minute fill in..." Nothing is ever good enough!

Ummmm.... you're gorgeous for starters. People pay money for a bum like that so congrats to you. Plus I have sincere hair envy right now... just saying.
