Are you really going to watch your wedding video again?

I'm having it. Yes you may only watch it once a year but at least you have it. Just picture when your 80 sitting in the living room with all your grandchildren reminiscing about that day.

We got a videographer. It was very important to me to have video of my day, as I have a terrible memory, and I have a hard time remembering details... but I also am likely to develop Alzheimer's in my old age (My maternal grandmother had it) so I would like to have lots of videos that can help remember important days like this.

I also want footage of the day for my children. It was so fun for me as a kid to watch my parent's wedding video.

I just got the full hour and a half documentary 5 months after the wedding and I'm soooo happy we decided to bite the bullet and pay for one. I know I will watch this every single year on our anniversary and probably when times get tough as well. I can't wait to watch it a few more times this month when we visit our families. I absolutely loved our photos, but I would've been very sad if we didn't have the video too. We got a newer company who only does documentary style (much cheaper than cinematic style) and everything was local for them so that kept our costs down as well. We paid $2600 for 9 hours coverage, 2 videographers, 3 cameras, highlight video, edited chaptered documentary, 3 dvd/blu ray combo packs, and a usb drive so it'll never go out of style. The best parts are hearing the readings and the toasts, seeing my dad and my husband choked up the first time they saw me, and seeing everyone dance and how fun everything was. I don't know, it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I had doubts at first too and I'm so glad I went with my gut. No regrets.

I can NOT wait for the videos to come, there were so many fun things that a photographer can't capture.

I had a videographer and I have watched my video several times. My parents and H's parent both wanted and purchased a copy also. I think it is invaluable. I HIGHLY encourage everyone to get a video.

When the day was over there were so many things that I couldn't remember. When I got the video back, there were things that I didn't know had even happened (seeing some of the helpful things that people did), things that I didn't even remember (H's reaction to me, cutting the cake - most of the day is a blur when it's over!) and things that I wasn't a part of (seeing H and the guys getting ready, seeing my dad getting ready) that I got to see. I would have spent double what I did to have what I have. When its all said and done all you have left are pictures and video (if you choose to get it).

I had not planned on getting a videographer, but one of my friends that does wedding on the side decided to gift me with her services. To be honest, I wouldn't have hired and paid for a videographer because we would likely watch the video only once a year. We invested more in the photographer because I do enjoy looking at pictures.

FH & I were just talking about this. We have a videographer mostly because I wanted it. He says he'll never watch (or feel the urge to rather) and he's much more likely to look at photos. I will definitely watch again though! I love having video memories. We also want video because of our second celebration back in Spain so we can show the video there.

I didnt get a videographer because seeing pictures of my self is weird enough to me so i would rather not see a video. Also my Friend got one done and i think she watched it twice with in the first year they were married but as far as i know she hasn't watched it recently. it was alot of drunkeness

We talked about it and we KNOW we wouldn't watch it again and it talking to all of our married friends who had one at their wedding, they ALL (talked to 6 couples about it) said that they haven't watched the video since they first got the final product back (all married 5 or more years), which only convinced us that we made the right decision for us.

I'm glad I did it because I don't remember the whole day because of how much was going on (and how anxious I was). Ours was only $1200 because we got a film student right out of college before he built up his business.

@Surfergirl - If the video is "a lot of drunkeness" the videographer didn't do his/her job very well.

We're skipping it. We both know we're never going to watch it again.

I was gifted a videographer at the last minute. I have watched it probably 100 times already. I was able to show it.to.relatives out of state and they loved it. It especially comes in handy when I need a pick me up, or when we are in a rough spot. I loved being able to see the whole ceremony unfold, and everytime I watch it I feel the exact same emotions I felt the day of. I highly recommend it, if you can find a way to fit it in.

I watched mine I swear like 5-10 times in the first few days after we received it. AND it was one of the things I was looking forward to the most after the wedding. It was so awesome to be able to have something that could take us back to that emotion of our day so clearly and show us perspectives we missed as well as be able to breathe it all in again. At this point the video has been watched about 1400 times (haha...and they aren't all my views).

My mom loved it too...people that were there loved it...people that weren't there loved it. My parents loved it so much that they ended up hiring the Videographer to do a edited version of the wedding and the toasts that we hadn't requested or paid for before the wedding.

We ordered a 2-4 min highlight video and raw footage of the wedding, first look, getting ready, and reception for less than $1000

I get not being able to afford it or if it just isn't important to you...I originally planned on having one but trying to keep things on budget mid wedding planning pushed me to not consider it and then I realized towards the end of planning that I was putting so much time and energy into this wedding and that it would just go by so fast that I didn't want to regret not being able to really experience it and even experience the things I missed. So I quickly found an awesome awesome awesome videographer that gave us a great deal and I can't be happier!

One of our friends wasn't able to have a videographer (she didn't think it was in her budget) and her wedding was STUNNING! But she doesn't remember it that way..she remembers turmoil and such..I think it is such a loss that she doesn't have a video to look back on that day and see it from the view of a guest..and how beautiful and touching and fun it was...I think it would help her erase some of the bad feelings she has about it all.

DH only had three requests about the wedding: no church, no instrumental versions of songs, and no videographer. I think he was afraid I'd plop down every soul who entered our house and say, "Want to see our wedding video?" which is funny cause a: I could do that with wedding photos, and you can torture people a lot more explaining in excruciating detail each one of *those*. At least with a video, you put it in, press 'play' and it's over when it's over! and b: I've never shown our wedding pics to someone who didn't ask, so clearly that's not 'me'.

@MrsE- I watch your video every time you post it and it gets me every time! Its beautiful!

I think something like a highlight video (like MrsE did) is worth the money. I may get mushy (I'm already getting soft over time) and watch it on big milestones so I'm hoping my planner can get it into the budget for me because I think I may want it.

I watch mine all the time. It depends on the type of person you are.... do you watch home videos? If the answer is no, then you probably wont watch THIS video.

I watch my family's home videos as if they are going out of style (yeah, I suppose they kindof are ) so it was a no brainer for me to get a videographer. I would have regretted not getting one, and it is probably my favorite thing from our wedding (other than, you know, my husband of course).

Do what you want... you know yourself better than anyone else. They are not cheap, so if you would rather spend the money elsewhere, do it.

My MOH watches hers all the time. They watch it on Valentine's and on their anniversary.

We didn't have a professional videographer, but my aunt taped the ceremony and part of the reception for us. I didn't think I'd watch it ever again, but we've actually watched it twice! The day was such a blur, and my aunt actually caught moments on video I had no idea even happened.

On the other hand, we've looked at the photos far more than we've watched the video. I think it's cool to have, but not a necessity. If you can't afford it, you could always ask a willing friend or relative to film it, or set up a tripod and ask someone to hit record for you.
