Are you really going to watch your wedding video again?

Tru Lowes, on February 8, 2015 at 6:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 53

Originally I wanted didn't want a videographer, I don't like how my voice sounds on a recording (who does? haha) but then I saw some amazing videos, so I started looking into it.

Unfortunately they're pretty expensive (for the good ones) and I already have an amazing photographer, so do I really need one?

How many of you married ladies actually watch your wedding video?

Thanks! Smiley smile

I skipped. I've never had the urge to watch it. I DO LOVE looking at my pictures. If you have a good photographer, hopefully they'll capture a lot of great moments.

At first I didn't think I wanted a videographer either. It wasn't in the budget anyways. But after seeing some amazing wedding videos, I realized that I would regret not getting it done. I put a request on 100 layer cake, stating my budget, date and wedding location. I got several bids and found a great company that was willing to work with my budget. So I got a second job to cover the cost. I am slowly but surely paying for it and am so excited. I know that FH and I are going to watch the video again. But I am also excited that FH's family in India and my family in Israel can watch the video and share in our big day, even though they can't attend in person.

My answer would be maybe once or twice, and that's why I am not having one. I am not willing to spend even $1500 for a DVD that will just sit on the shelf.

The ones I've seen have been fantastic, but in my area, you're looking at 3000+. Jennifer, i think that's a perfect reason to book a videographer, and a lot of my couples here, with families elsewhere, have it done for just that reason.

This was a priority for me. Growing, I used to watch my parent's wedding video every year around their anniversary with them. It was a fun family night to sit and watch the video with mom and dad.

I want to do that with my kids. Additionally, because we got married back in WI, we wanted to share the wedding with our friends at home in Alaska who were not able to travel to our wedding.

@Sarah - I do have an amazing photographer, and I'm more of a photo kind of person...

@Jennifer - I've spent so long umming and aahing that I've left it too late to save, if I was going to get one, I would probably ask my dad (but I don't really want to). Besides, my family aren't that far away, and the ones that aren't coming (that are far away), we aren't that close to anyway.

@Monica - my thoughts too, surely after this wedding stuff is done I can finally get on with my life, and not think about wedding things (until my FSIL's come up 6 months later...).

Why the fuss for only one day - or for us, 5 hours (morning wedding, finishes at 3pm)? It's so easy to get caught up in HAVING ALL THE THINGS. Ugh.

My FH and I aren't overly nostalgic so we decided to skip the videographer, I would say if you don't see yourselves watching it over again don't spend the funds. A guest could probably film the key moments.

I didn't consider it important, as I'm much more a picture person. I don't regret it at all

I'm not planning to get one. The way I see it, everyone used to get a wedding video because the photographer normally only did your posed portraits and ones of you having your first dance and cutting the cake. But now your photographer is getting pictures of all your centerpieces, the detail on your dress, pictures of your guests, etc.

True lowes, I am in the same situation. At first I didn't want the video but now I am really bummed that I didn't put it into my budget. I am having a hard time justifying another 2,000-4,000 when we already are spending 25,000. Everyone on here seems to be convinced that it will be something you will regret. I personally was raised where my dad recorded EVERYTHING. If you can find the money for it... I say go for it! Also, look into different colleges that video production programs. You might be able to find a college student who can use it as a project and make some money off of it, but it is a gamble on quality.

I'm more of a picture person as well, so I don't know that we'll do a video. It's definitely not in the budget

We are purchasing a camcorder and having FH's brother do some video of the ceremony and reception . I think this is a good way to capture the evening without spending a ton of money .

We didn't have one, and I don't regret it. We have amazing photographs and I remember the wedding as it was from my perspective. It' s enough. Everyone who has had a videographer is super glad they have one, but I don't think you miss it if you don't.

I had not originally planned on a videographer, and we have an AMAZING photographer. But I am a sentimental person, so I found room for a basic video package. That way, we will have things like the vows and toasts, that can't be truly caught on camera, memorialized.

It is soon much money so we aren't going to. I will let people video on their own devices if they want and we will get it.

Yeah it's just pretty expensive, and then what if it just sits on the shelf? I suppose we may get it out from time to time because we're both romantics like that (sometimes), but, for an extra 2-3k (at the cheapest).

KarenM - yeah that's what I was wondering, you remember as an amazing day, so with a video, I wonder if it would make the memories better or worse because sometimes you remember things happier and better than they were Smiley smile

I have watched my hospital wedding at least 3 times, but that was lift my spirit from loosing dad. I got the videoographer for the big wedding so I could have footage of my father and aunt and some other people. I will watch it from time to time I think.

I've watched mine, and I'm really glad to have it since my grandfather passed away this summer. My wedding was the last family event that he was really pretty healthy for.

There were also a lot of little moments that I didn't see at the time and really enjoyed seeing on the video--interactions between friends and family, etc. My wedding day went so fast--I didn't have time to see everything at the time, and it's nice to be able to go back and see some more.

I really like watching home videos from when I'm a kid. I don't think we will have a pro but maybe just find a family member to record with a video camera .

Susan and Kahlcara, I think it's awesome that you have those moments captured on video, I think in both your cases it would have been really important to have those memories... I'm sorry for your losses Smiley sad

And without sounding too morbid, I would love to have that with both of my grandmothers as they're in their 90's now... I do have an SLR though which takes pretty good video, so I suppose at worst case I can have that.

The other thing I really liked about the video is that I can see my FH all nervous and waiting for me, which would be really sweet...
