Anyone else planning a Vow Renewal Ceremony/Reception

Mrs. NewBeginnings, on September 13, 2012 at 5:28 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 51

So, I have actually been married now for nearly 8 years and am planning a vow renewal ceremony/reception in conjucntion with my 30th birthday and graduation.

If anyone else out there is also planning a vow renewal ceremony/reception, I would love to get to know you so we can share ideas and keep in touch during our planning process...

I just found this site today. Smiley smile My husband and I are planning a Vow Renewal/Reception for our 10th. We have a few years, but as long as it took us to plan the first time, and we DIDN'T get the 'dream wedding' (gotta love mom's with ideas... :/ ) We decided it would take us twice as long to do this one... OUR way. Smiley smile

Hey, Julie! I am with you. My husband and I didn't have the wedding we (I) wanted years ago, my family wasn't even able to make it down (they leave 1000 miles away). So, since everyone was going to be down here for my graduation anyway, we figured, why not do it. And even though some folks may ask, why 8 years? It actually has a symbolic meaning of "New Beginnings" or "New Creation". I think playing on that could be appropriate.

Anyway, good luck in your plans (you really are getting a head start Smiley smile) And I hope we can share ideas and support each other through the planning process!

    Congrats!

Aww! I love the 8 years symbolism! I didn't know that! Hmm.. something to discuss with hubby. LOL!

Definitely would LOVE to support and share with you!! Lord knows we (i.e. -I-) could use it! Even without all of the legal stuff.. this is still pretty overwhelming. I suppose it's in part because I don't have 20 people telling me what I want or should do. It's all us this time. LOL!

I do a LOT of vow renewals, and I really love them. Very often my couples will include parts of their original ceremony and references to their first celebration. It's very sweet. Best wishes!

I married a couple almost 10 years ago and just got a call from the wife -- they want to renew their vows in November.

One couple I had wanted to renew their vows to celebrate: their 10th anniversary; her getting her masters; and the fact that they were FINALLY expecting a baby. It was really an adventure dealing with that overly-emotional "bride" who would cry at anything! I sent her a draft of their ceremony and got a phone call, "That's (sob) so (sob) beautiful (sob)! I (sob) love (sob) it (sob)!"

I've been married for 7 years and we are planning to renew our vows on our 10 year anniversary. We also got married at the JOP and want our real wedding. Congrats to everyone who's renewing vows!

Alrighty, so it's been a gew weeks now since we last talked..has anyone made any progress? I've booked my ceremony/reception hall (it's in the same room), ordered, received, and mailed my save-the-dates & accommadation magnets/cards to out of town guests, ordered sample table overlays and runners (smartyhadaparty.com and they are decent for the price), and started planning food, centerpieces, other decor and flowers. I've even started using pinterest (which I never thought I would) to save my ideas.

I'm going to attempt a few DIY projects in the next few months to see how my centerpiece ideas and some desserts will turn out: Tissue paper pomander balls both hanging, as centerpieces (on vases), and maybe potted on the floor, as well as oreo and marshmellow pops for the dessert table.

I am absolutely super excited and consumed with this planning. How's everyone else doing?

So glad I found you ladies! I thought I was the only one planning a wedding for our vow renewal ceremony. There are so many negative things about this on the internet. Anyhow, we got married with an officiant and two witness in 2009. We couldn't afford a wedding and wanted to do it for religeous purposes. I am planning a 5 year ceremony, but it feels like a 10 year since we have been together about 8 years now.

I haven't booked a reception hall since it's very early but I've decided on a color theme and I have a couple venues in mind. Mary, those are some great ideas, my mom and sisters are going to help me make my center pieces. Making them yourself is inexpensive, we did it for my sister's wedding.

I am planning my 10 year vow renewal for Nov 2013. Hubby and I got married at the courthouse with about 20 other couples, I felt so cheated. Although it was the courthouse, I thought we would still get our own separate moment. Not everyone all at once. Anyway, I am clueless as where to start with the wedding planning. So sorry I don't have much advice, just a bunch of questions at this point. Like should you plan your renewal ceremony on your anniversary date? Mine falls on a Friday, I'm not sure how that will workout for guest.

Welcome, ladies! I'm so glad you found us. Rebecca, you are getting an early start, but that's a great thing, especially since I am assuming you are planning the wedding for around Thanksgiving in 2014 and things will likely book pretty quickly as folks start to plan their holidays.

Kimberly, my husband and I were actually originally married on a Friday evening. We had a small (very, very small) ceremony at his uncle's church and a mini "reception" at our townhouse. We didn't have any out of town guests, so we didn't have to worry about folks coming into town, however, even if you do, whether your wedding was on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, chances are, out-of-town guests would still be taking time off to travel, so I don't think that would make much of a difference.

Our anniversary is actually on May 27th, but I am graduating on May 4th, so we figured since my family would be in town for the graduation anyway, we would have the wedding that weekend as well.

    Hope this helps!

I feel SOO much better after reading all these comments. I thought I was the only one that will be having a party celebration with my vow renewal!! I have been reading so many things online saying that we shouldn't have a do-over and what not. That really discouraged me!! I had a very small wedding with my husband in April 2011. We couldn't afford our dream wedding and now we can. So we are planning for one for October 2013. I say do whatever you want!!! BREAK THOSE TRADITIONS!! All I want is to have close friends and families there, my first dance with my husband, my first cutting cake with my husband, all those wonderful memories I never got on photograph with him. We have been through ALOT and this is something WE want to do. Yeah, we have only been married for 1 1/2 years, but heck who cares!!! We love each other and we don't have to wait the 10 year mark, 25 years, etc. DO WHAT YOU WANT AND ENJOY THIS SPECIAL MOMENT!! THE WORST THING THAT COULD HAPPEN IS PEOPLE TO TALK Smiley smile

My sister and sister in law will be my MOHs, and our daughter will be my jr MOH. My husbands brothers and our son will be his BM and jr BM. We aren't having Bridesmades and groomsmen, not because we don't think it would be appropriate, but because we just don't want a huge wedding party. After all, the larger the wedding party, the more expensive the wedding. We want to keep it simple, yet elegant. And why would people talk? You are celebrating your love. If folks talk about that, that may be a sign of jealousy.

We are also renewing our vows for our 10th anniversary. We got married on 12/29/2005 at the courthouse with I think like 10 people. Only his grama could make it. So this time around we are going to do the whole wedding thing. I want my bestfriend and godchildren to walk down the aisle before me. I also want to walk with my dad down the aisle as I am a daddy's girl and didn't get to the first time. I can't wait. Even my husband is excited he is planning the honeynoon, sicne we never got one the first time either. The first time was basilty going to the courthouse on Friday and then going back to work on Monday. No fun at all.

We are renewing our vows for our ten year anniversary. Seems to be a popular thing to do! I've got six months to select and plan everything. It's funny, because he didn't propose until March of that year, so I only had four months to plan that wedding! I've got two extra months now! Any tips about how to space things so I'm not running myself ragged the week of? The lady who helped me plan the first one, passed away a few years ago. My mom lives several miles away.
