I was just wondering since i don't remember couples doing that a few years ago. Is this a recent trend? My fiance doesn't see the need and i have to say im on the same page.

We aren't. But our photog package includes one so we are doing a mini shoot with dogs in October when our photog will be in our city for another wedding.
We didn't. For a couple of reasons, we're long distance and since we've been engaged, I haven't seen him and won't see him again until MAYBE July. Also, I'm not photogenic at all and hate photos of myself so I felt like it would be a waste of money and time to have a bunch of photos I hate of myself
We weren't going to, but we discovered that it was important to FH's mom, so we got some pictures for her. We didn't do an official engagement shoot. We just asked my dad to take some nice pictures of us then I sent them to my brothers for editing what I couldn't. I don't think it's recent. My parents said they had an engagement shoot for their wedding and they've been married almost 30 years.
Were doing them even though were getting married in 3 months. We had over a year long engagement but FH was gone for a year of it. Its our way of meeting our photographer and making sure we like his style and that we get along. Plus FH and I suck at pictures...so practice makes perfect
One more thigh to consider: a lot of photographers include an engagement shoot with their wedding packages. The photographers I spoke to were willing to trade the engagement shoot for either a boudoir shoot or extra prints.
I'm with just about everyone else. I will probably ask my friend who does photography as a hobby to do some shots of us and call it the engagement pictures. We got an awesome deal on our photographer but he wanted $599 for engagement pics. I don't really see the point in spending a ton of money in engagement pictures when the wedding pictures will soon replace them.
My moh is taking them (she does photography as a casual hobby, never for money, but has a super nice camera) but if she wasnt going to I would have skipped. its a lot if money to spend when you need to pay for a wedding soon
