I was just wondering since i don't remember couples doing that a few years ago. Is this a recent trend? My fiance doesn't see the need and i have to say im on the same page.

FH planned it perfectly lol. We were already getting pictures taken so that we could frame a recent picture of us for his mother when he proposed. FMIL didn't consider those real engagement pictures, so we went ahead and asked my dad to take a few pictures of us at different places. We never did an official engagement shoot, though. The only reason we got what we did was out of love for his mother because it was important to her
We weren't going to do them for all of the reasons everyone else said, but our photographer included them in our package. If we had to pay extra we wouldn't do it, but one thing that will be nice is having quality photos of us (all of ours are taken on our phones) and since neither of us are "good" at being photographed, we'll get to practice with our wedding photographer.
It's definitely a new trend and not necessary. It's an added expense, which is great for the photographer because they get some extra business but if you're looking to save money or just don't see the point, it's one thing that is easy to cut out. A lot of times they are included in the photography package but if you say you don't want that, they will subtract that expense from the package.
We had a late engagement session and were not crazy about most of the photos (the photographer was not experienced in shooting plus size people) so we are thinking about doing a 1-year engagement shoot with a new photographer. We just want some photos together where we are not in our wedding attire because we don't have too many current good ones where DH's head is not cut off (due to our height difference).
I didn't. I wasn't planning on using a picture on anything (invites etc) and didn't do STD so why spend the money lol well that and FH is not a big picture person haha
I'm not doing it unless it comes with the photography package. I've been with FH for 6 years and we got engaged on vacation so we took some great photos then.
I wanted to because it had been a long time since we have had professional photos of ourselves taken. However I don't see them as a necessity and you can always send save the dates that don't have pictures on them if thats why you would want to take them
Ours came with our package since we opted for the photo booth and video from the same company. We were totally on board since we have 50 bagillion photos of our twins, but like 5 of us, and 2 as a family. We included the kids in some of the pictures too, so now we have 10 family photos instead of 2! It just made sense. I have to say, I am so happy we did it though, we had so much fun with the photographers, and my face hurt from laughing and smiling so much. We had a great time, and I'm looking forward to our wedding even more now after really getting to know the photographers.
We skipped it too. it isn't really our style and we ended up using the money toward the wedding which felt like a better investment. one thing was that in our area it was a bit tough to find a photog who would JUST do the wedding, no e-pics, but we found someone we loved in the end.
We had my sister who is a really good amateur photographer take pictures of us in a more casual setting and used them for invites, save the dates, etc. when we went to book the wedding photographer, it seemed like all the packages included engagement photo shoot and we actually had to negotiate that out of the pricing.
My FH and I are not photo people and were totally against an engagement shoot, but got them done because we don't have any pictures of us (other than selfies) and we wanted to use them for our save the dates and for our guest book at our wedding. We just had a family friend take a few shots after work one day and called it good. I think its one of those things that was a trend, then wasn't, and is making it back around!
We're not but I kind of wish we were! I love seeing all the engagement pictures here and I appreciate the logic of getting comfortable together in front of the camera/photographer. Since we are doing a planned elopement and have to use the resorts on-site photographer we won't have a package that includes the engagement option nor could we get comfortable with the photographer ahead of time. Bummer but I will live! Meanwhile I will keep enjoying all the lovely photos here!
