Amazon and rings?

Hey everybody! So, FH and I aren't really in a good place to spend 100+ on an engagment ring for me right now but FH says he feels horrible for me not having a ring. So a friend of ours suggested getting cheap rings off of Amazon. Has anybody else done this or heard of anybody else doing this?

@Michelle - if you paid a portion of the ring, then do you really think you could afford it? Doesn't sound like it. Inexpensive doesn't mean cheap. And expensive doesn't mean nice or quality (as my ring is the perfect example of).

I have seen some really pretty rings on Etsy that are affordable. If you're into gemstones, that might also be a cheaper route.

We decided against the engagement ring and just purchased bands.

@Michelle Your preference to drop a ton of money on a ring has nothing to do what OP asked. It sounded precisely like bragging because you didn't just say you had expensive taste you gave us a dollar amount. She specially said she wasn't in a good place for spending large amounts of money and you left your comment. It would have been just as classy to post a picture of the receipt.

@OP I recommend looking into CZ style rings. Things like Swarovski can discolor over time. Also if you look for a ring try to find a harder stone like CZ, lab created sapphires, lab created rubies, or topaz. They are higher on the Mohs scale and won't burnish in the next couple of years. Also look for silver 925 not a silver mixed with other unknown alloys. Silver 925 is a higher purity so as long as you clean it regularly it won't discolor and won't change your skin. Alloys such as copper can discolor your skin. Best of luck!

@Michelle Great! We get the picture you don't like cheap things. Smiley smile It's literally the fact that OP says hey we can't afford something expensive, what are some great options? You initally didn't offer advice but decided to brag. If this was a how much did you ring cost thread, you'd be a better reaction. Also adding smiley faces and lol doesn't make it any nicer. K? Lol Smiley smile

But technically you didn't get what you can afford either. I didn't have to split the difference of my e ring with my FH to get what I wanted. #sipstea

@Michelle - we get it. You are being snobby and showing price is all that matters and you are looking down on the OP for not being willing to go beyond their means (like you did) and spend the kind of money you wanted.

"I personally don't like cheap things."

Lots of people don't, but that's called living within your means. There are more important things in life, like putting food on the table and keeping a roof over a family's head.

@OP Looks like you've gotten a lot of great leads. And it those don't pan out remember -- just because someone says you need a ring doesn't mean you do. You will figure out what works best. Good luck!

We split it because I didn't want him to spend that much on his own and it was my insistence. I wanted to pick it out not that he wouldn't have done a nice job, but I'm super picky, which you prob understand by now. Never claimed I was better than anyone else. Sorry not sorry you take offense?

Oh hunny! PSA: Take a diamond education class before dropping that a large amount of cash. Bigger is not always better.

@Michelle I'll give you credit for owning your shit and posting your rings. It's beautiful. If someone said I bought my dress at good will, would post well I bought a Vera Wang?

@Michelle - I am picky too and picked out my ring, and I didn't pay for it so your point was??? I think quite a few ladies (and gents) here on WW picked out their own rings - but we sure as heck didn't pay for them themselves! Picky? Super judgey is more like it. Sorry not sorry? How about tacky and unclassy??

@OP - I hope you find the right ring you are looking for and are over the moon with it.

@Michelle first you said you split the cost because FH said it was too much... now you're saying you didn't want him to spend that much and insisted.

@Keisha - preach it girl! I have a cousin who bragged about getting his FW a Tiffany Diamond solitaire. Paid a fortune. Went to get it appraised - not worth 2/3 of what he paid because of the huge inclusions in it and the quality of the diamond was horrible. He paid for the name, and that is about it. Just because you paid a lot for it, doesn't mean you got a quality product. It means you didn't do your due diligence.
