Alcohol at the Bridal Shower?

Mallory, on May 30, 2013 at 3:40 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 50

Hey ladies just a quick question, My step-mom and sister(MOH) are hosting my bridal shower and weren't planning on having any alcohol as they thought that was the norm. Just wondering if it’s tacky to have some champagne and OJ or wine as I thought it was customary to have a few alcoholic bevys at the shower! It's a Sunday afternoon so I'm just not sure if anyone will be offended if I pick up a couple items!

Thank you

Pshhh, tacky or not, they're having it at mine! I think we're having mimosas. :-) I don't think it's tacky at all, but that's my humble opinion. :-)

I think that champagne is somewhat normal? At the showers I have been to anyways it has been.

My shower is a Friday evening (only day that would work for most people) and we will have having wine.

I've never been to a bridal shower with booze, but I know that lots of people have them.

I doubt mine will. My BMs hosting aren't into it, so I doubt thought are planning to.

I think wine or champagne is totally fine at a bridal shower. I'm not a drinker, but the only drink I will indulge in is wine and mimosas. What's a get together without a light libation to compliment it! :-)

Champagne or mimosas or something like that would be pretty acceptable I think.

I had a morning 11am brunch bridal shower. We had mimosas and champagne for people to drink! It was a very classy affair!

    TOTALLY APPROPRIATE!!

I told my girls that I want my Bridal Shower to be champagne themed! So yes, alcohol is the norm and usually expected, at least in my circles.

I need it at mine!!! Lots of people and I HATE being the center of attention. I am sure there will be spiked something or other, but.. if not.. it is in the back room of a VFW with a bar... so.. works for me!

Not only are we having alcohol, but we are having a DIY mimosa and bloody mary bar. I think if you have wine, mimosas, mojitos, etc you would be fine. I'd stay away from keg stands, though. That could get a bit tacky...

I think I'm gonna need a glass of wine or two to calm my nervous of opening gifts at the shower!

    I don't think it's a party without alcohol....kidding (sort of)

But I don't think there's anything wrong with that AT ALL! We had a DIY mimosa bar at my cousins...and my MOH's we had a full service bar

Mine's this Saturday, and it's an around-the-world theme - a few finger foods from different parts of the world in a few different rooms, paired with a beverage for people to sample. We're doing Italy, France, and Lebanon (all places I've lived/spent time/am from), and so that means wine, champagne, and arak (a horrible, really strong anise-flavored liqueur along the lines of ouzo, but worse). If that's tacky...I guess I'm tacky.

I don't think it's tacky/right/wrong one way or the other...just a personal and hostess preference.
