Hey ladies just a quick question, My step-mom and sister(MOH) are hosting my bridal shower and weren't planning on having any alcohol as they thought that was the norm. Just wondering if it’s tacky to have some champagne and OJ or wine as I thought it was customary to have a few alcoholic bevys at the shower! It's a Sunday afternoon so I'm just not sure if anyone will be offended if I pick up a couple items!

Thank you

I think the more pertinent question is - Since it is the norm TO serve alcohol (be it champagne or wine or fruit punch) does that mean they are ok with it? Maybe there is a different issue at hand... are their any recovering alcoholics in your family? Would serving alcohol to everyone dramatically increase the cost of throwing the shower (not sure how many people are invited)? If they are renting a space, having it catered, etc. the cost can go up very quickly. Just food for thought.

The best baby showers and bridal showers I have been to is the ones with alcohol. It gets everyone loose and not so up tight. Who cares if it is tacky, if you want it done do it. Life is too short to worry about what ppl think!

I think just a few different drinks is perfectly acceptable, especially for a Sunday afternoon.

I didn't have any at mine and I have only been to one bridal shower with alcohol (sangria). I don't think it is expected but it isn't inappropriate either.

You'll need it! As soon as I walked into mine, one of my aunts handed me a glass of pink champagne! Granted it took me almost the entire 3 hours to drink the one glass while talking with everyone, but it definitely calmed my nerves (I hate being the center of attention).

What time is yours? If it's earlier in the afternoon, you won't have to worry about that crazy aunt drinking a few too many mimosas and telling embarrassing stories!

You don't have to have alcohol at the shower, but you can if you want. I don't even recall if there was any at mine -- I don't think so, but there could've been a bottle of champagne on hand for mimosas. I think everyone just drank punch or soda, as far as I saw.
