Addressing invitations

Kristen, on February 22, 2013 at 4:19 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

How is everyone addressing invitations? Are you hiring a calligrapher, handwriting it yourself, or printing from your computer?

I'd love the calligraphy look but I'm finding it super expensive!! It's like $2 an envelope!! I have a few awesome fonts on my computer, but is it not proper etiquette to have it printed from a computer? I have a relative who works for a printing company who was completely taken back that I was considering using my computer to address envelopes.....I don't quite understand why....

What do you all think?

Handwriting. I'm not paying for someone to write on an envelope people will immediately throw away. My cousin has beautiful handwriting and she's offered to come down and help address.

I feel like the whole printing would cause me more stress than I need. With 4 of us addressing at the same time we should be able to bang them out in no time. I'm not sure why your relative was taken aback though, it seems like a pretty common thing to me...

I used clear labels for the STDs and printed directly on the envelopes from my computer printer for the invites!

For me, it was a no-brainer, I don't have the $2/envelope ($300!) for a calligrapher and I didn't want to use labels on the fancy envelopes.

We are addressing them ourselves. We could do a calligrapher if we wanted, but we wanted the invitations to be a bit more personal, so we are getting together a few friends with really nice handwriting to help address them. Calligraphers do tend to charge anywhere from $1.50-$2 per invitation (inside and outside envelopes). No it's not proper to have them printed on your computer because it wrinkles the envelopes. Additionally, you don't want to glue them on and have them fall off on their way to the person you are inviting. If you have some friends with very good handwriting, that would be the most fun and cost effective way to do it.

We had a calligrapher--it was FIVE dollars an envelope. So worth it, though. Everyone said it was the most beautifully they'd ever seen their names written down Smiley smile

    Fake Calligraphy: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/my-cheating-calligraphy/5374572c0fdf94cb.html

Basically, I printed really lightly on the envelopes from the computer in a fancy font. Then I traced over that with a gold gel pen. It sounds like a lot of work but it's mostly just tedious. Once I printed all the envelopes, I just sat myself in front of the tv and went to town tracing. After a while, you learn the curves of the font and letters so it becomes much more like writing than tracing. I did this for my outer envelopes, inner envelopes and rsvp envelopes.

It worked fabulous and looked amazing. We got a lot of compliments on it.

I printed them with my printer in a fancy caligraphy font that matched our invite font. it looked way better than my fancy handwriting I tried.

I printed mine in a fancy calligraphy and it looked great and cost me nothing versus $300. Ii used an inkjet versus a laser printer so the glue wouldn't stick and they wouldn't get wrinkled.

I've found a calligrapher on Etsy that does them for about $1.40 each. I'm only doing outer envelopes.

I am using the clear Avery labels for our invitations. I used them for our save the dates and will do the same for the thank you cards. They make life so much easier!

My mother knows calligraphy, so I had her address all my envelopes. I think a handwritten envelope is better than printed if you can't afford calligraphy.

We are doing wrap labels. I don't have a picture of mine, but attached a few I found online.

I designed them in Publisher, and FH printed on full sheet sticker paper and cut them out with a paper cutter. I think they are much nicer than regular labels. We are using them for both the outer envelope and the RSVP envelope. We are doing pocketfolds and have no inner envelope.
