A Red Dress? Really?

Destiny, on February 25, 2016 at 4:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 82

My stepmom messaged me the other day asking again for the 50th time what our colors are. I let her know they are rose gold, gunmetal grey, and black. My dad is wearing a grey tux with a black shirt and a black bowtie. She then proceeds to let me know she does not wear those colors, and prefers red... I am really annoyed because she will be in a lot of our pictures, and she is going to stand out like a sore thumb next to everyone else who is in gray, blush, black, and rose gold...I am contemplating asking her kindly to please wear something in those colors. Should I? Would you? I just feel red is SO loud, and do not think it is appropriate for the family photos etc. I could understand if that was one of our colors or close...but it isn't. Ugh!

    Step mom I'm guessing?

You have no right to tell her what to wear, the fact that you care is really weird in and of itself, and it's very appropriate for family photos as long as it's not a red thong.

This is not the hill to die on.

Red actually sounds like it would be lovely with black, gray, and blush. You can't dictate what anyone wears other than generally with the formality of the event and the bridal party itself.

Edit: Unless you're wearing a red wedding gown. THEN I would fight it Smiley smile

    Ohhh... ok got it.

No you don't get to choose what she wears. I wouldn't think she would be in formal pictures with your bridal party, so what does it matter if she doesn't match the wedding colours?

I wouldn't worry too much about this. I feel like its a non-issue

I told my mom she can wear whatever color and she picked dark purple. I do not have purple or any shade of purple in my wedding and I think it is completely fine. I don't think your SM will stand out like a sore thumb.

It is a very low cut dress too with boobs showing and a huge long slit up the side of her leg... I guess i am more upset too because it isnt appropriate...i think i wouldn't care so much if it covered more of her body lol, But it is bright red and VERY revealing...

Your SM does not need to match your wedding party. Let her wear whatever color she wants. She will not clash with what your father is wearing because his colors are neutral.

The MOG should choose a dress to compliment the MOB, but your SM does not need to match anyone. There is nothing wrong with red if that is the color she feels comfortable wearing. Are you telling all of your guests what colors to wear?

I told my mom and future mother in law to wear whatever color they felt the most beautiful in. Rose gold has pink tones to it which fall into the red color family. That being said, I think the colors will all go really well together.

She should get to wear what she wants. My colors are very pale pink and silver and MOG bought a sparkly red dress. Not what I would have picked, but the point is -- she did. Because she liked it. That matters more than matching in pictures.

Not your body, let it go. This is one of those things that you really have no say in. You can dictate what your BP wears, but when you start extending that to the guests is when it goes too far.

My mom showed me the dress she chose for our wedding - it is ivory lace on top and a light champagne colored ballgown bottom. It looks bridal to me (my dress is ivory lace)- but my mom is so excited about it, it looked great on her, and ultimately, it isn't a big deal.

I would let it go, and let her wear whatever she wants. (I would be thrilled if my mom chose red instead! haha)

You should tell her what color you want her in if it bothers you. my mom and my mother in law asked me what colors they should be in and I told them as long as it matched my theme im fine with it.

Are we talking about maroon or fire engine red? Agree with other people. There are many fights in a battle. Choose carefully which you want to win and lose.

How many photos is your mom going to be in? Ultimately I don't think it will matter. I think the red would look nice.

Red will look good with those colors. Why does it matter what she's going to wear?
