"I hate to disagree with the other posters but really when I have seen Junior Brides they are the daughter of the bride or groom that they don't want to be a flower girl and want more directly incorporated into the ceremony. The parent and stepparent marry and then they have a little joining ceremony to unite the family with the Junior Bride--she gets her own little ring or necklace if they want to make sure she can keep it more than a few years. They are in mini wedding dresses and go from there. I have also seen Junior Bridesmaids be called Junior Brides but that wasn't very common."

You're welcome!

Junior bride sounds like child bride in my head. Creepy.

Flower girls can be any age you want them to be. When it comes to your wedding it's your choice. Someone mentioned their flower girl was "4 the age they're supposed to be". Anyway jr brides are pointless but it's your wedding so do what you please.

I think it's creepy but I guess if you have 593 people in your bridal party, you have to call them something.

Every wedding I've been to has a Jr Bride or miniature Bride or Jr bridesmaid and groom. She wears a cute child appropriate white dress and he wears a little suit. I've never been to one where they were the children of the couples. But I think it's fine as long she's not dressed inappropriately or has makeup on.

BBlife, I think this may be something most seen at African American weddings.

I must have missed the original thread where this was discussed, but....why call this role a junior bride, as opposed to junior bridesmaid or flower girl? The bride is the adult woman about to be married, so why would the younger girl also be called a bride? She's not getting married. That just doesn't make any sense to me.

Strange as heck to me. I have been to plenty of weddings that have incorporated kids from previous weddings without the title of jr. Bride.

We are doing a sand ceremony to incorporate our daughters. None of them are being called Jr brides

Thanks to those of you who have bothered to explain this to us, since it clearly is a cultural difference thing, instead of calling us idiots and saying DUH when we ask questions. It still creeps me out, but hey, I didn't grow up with it so of course it seems weird to me.

I actually think this is a cute idea, but I think people take it too far when they call the daughter a junior BRIDE, because she's not a bride. I agree that the name is super awkward and weird. But basically it's the stepdad making "vows" to the little girl that he will be a good father and be there for her as she grows up. The sentiment is really sweet i think labeling it as a "junior bride" sounds creepy because he's not marrying the daughter. But the concept is actually super sweet, especially if their bio dad is a deadbeat/out of the picture.
