8 hours enough time for a photographer?

Bride107, on June 8, 2018 at 11:32 AM Posted in Planning 1 21

I made a list of specific shots I would like to photographer to shoot (he asked)

Robe shot with BM/getting ready with mom, First look, ceremony photos,

-guest will be enjoying cocktail hour -

Bridal Party photos/parents,

entrance, first dance, cake cutting and sparkle exit

wedding starts at 5pm ends at 10pm

that only leaves 3 hours prior to the ceremony would that be enough time?

I am not sure if the photographer will be able to do this in 8 hours..... I will have to ask him when we meet next week.

We only have our photographer for 6 hours. I only wanted last minute getting ready shots, bridal party shots, the ceremony, the photo session after the ceremony, and the important things at the reception like the first dance, cake cutting, etc. Which will all end by 8.

We got a better deal for only having him come for 6 hours and I wasn't interested in a ton of party pics at the reception or of a ton of pics of me looking like a troll before I was totally ready.

I did 8 hour package, 2pm-10pm for 4:30 guest arrival, 5:00 ceremony, 5:30 cocktail hour, and 6:30-10:30 reception. So they weren’t there for the last 30 mins of dancing. We werent doing first look. But honestly neither the girls nor guys were photo ready when they were ready for us, even after doing the detail pics, flower pics, ceremony and reception decor/setting pics, and dress pics. So yeah, 3 hour pre-ceremony is enough even with first look I would think. Just make sure the boys are ready and you are ready.

Hi Jessica!Smiley heart I think that is plenty of time but definitely mention the timeline to him and what you are expecting so you are all on the same page. Are you planning on taking all your pictures on-site or do you have another location you were planning on going to? Here are some sample wedding photography timelines to help give you an idea of timing and what to expect the day of. Smiley smile

It sounds like enough time to me! If he gets there at 2:00 he can take the getting ready shots when people are mostly ready (you'll probably want most of these shots, even in robes, once everyone has hair and makeup done). That still gives you ample time for first look and other pictures before the ceremony, and will allow him to stay through the full reception. If you expect to be fully ready earlier than 2:00, you could consider extending it an hour or two. That timeline is probably something to discuss with your HMUA.

We are having 2 photographers for 8hours--since we are doing morning of events 1 photographer will be there for an additional 2hours taking pictures of things. We just want to make sure that we don't miss moments so to speak. You can always ask what additional time costs if you are worried.

Im only doing 6-7 hours so that should be plenty! As long as your very open with what you want, and your photographer agrees she can get that all done in that time! Smiley smile

We originally hired ours for 8 hours, and then ended up adding an extra hour at the last minute. Depending on how much of your reception you want them to capture, 8 hours should be fine if you don't do a ton of getting ready pics.

It sounds like plenty of time and that's similar to what I want to do..I also want to suggest if there are a lot of kids at my wedding to not get them in any shots, I dont know how to do that nicely without offending my FH since its his side of the family but i'm not paying for that

Our wedding was also from 5pm-10pm and our photographer was there for 8 hours. Worked out well for us, though I do wish that the photographer had more time beforehand to get some photos around the venue, detail shots of little statues, chandeliers, libraries etc. If you want more time added to your package, have her come a little earlier beforehand, but honestly, I think 8 hours is perfect.

We only have our photographer for 4 hrs. I decided to forego getting ready shots.

1 hr before the ceremony he is doing shots of me and my daughters and me and my mom as well as my FH and his BM but at the venue. We are skipping a first look.

Then he'll shoot the ceremony and after that we'll do some formal shots. Toasts and dances will be done after that and if he misses the last part of our reception when everyone is just hanging out, shrug.
